so clams have no problems going from a metal halide setup to t5's ? how is the color on the clams compared to the metals would love to see the differnce

You can get away with low light as long as you keep feeding them, if not their color will fade. That's my understanding. I never feed my clams but I have strong light.

Clams don't need fed, they just need fish poo, and high light. There is no scientific research that clams get much of anything out of feedings.

No clams are fine when you go from MH to T5, it really depends on what bulbs you have when it comes to color comparisons. I recently bought what I thought was a blue Squamosa from a vendor and under my lights it is green as green can be.

I keep all my clams under T5, fixture is an 8 bulb and its 18" off the water, clams are in about 5" of water so pretty shallow, but the colors and overall health are great. As far as clams needing fish poo..............I'm not sure that is scientifically proven either is it? I kept clams in a fishless tank for a while a few years ago.

I have had many clams under T5's in a 90, 58, and 20L. All did great. Derasas on the sand, Maxima, Croceas, and Squamosas on the rocks mid to high in the tank.

:nerd:I agree with Ian. They do perfectly fine under T5's. Shoot....I have them under 4-39W T5's in my 40 gallon prop tank :xd:

is it a deep tank or a long tank? i have a 45 bow front w/ 4-39w T5's and id love to have one but i was scared id kill it since i've read they need high intensity lighting. Also i should include my light is about 4 inches above the water

I am not sure sure if has been proven or not. I do know they use up ammonia though. So somewhere in the nitrogen cycle it becomes ammonia for the clams to use.
