Cleaning filter socks (without ending up on the couch)

Just out of curiosity what's wrong with using the washing machine? I'm not sure if you have any kids or not, but if they ever fell in some dog poop where are you going to put those clothes? Detritus is nothing compared to that mess. Yuck!

It's a give and take, like everything else in marriage. What I do to ease her concern is to make sure I clean/bleach sink after rinsing the filet socks out. I also run the washer on a clean cycle with bleach. After running the socks in 1 cycle with bleach, and 1 cycle straight water.

I have about 12 socks and I change a sock every 2 to 5 day ruffly depending how bad they are. when I replace one I put it in a bucket with water and some bleach until they are all dirty by that time they are almost white already I wash them in the machine after that. but with being in bleach they are disinfected and whiter then most my regular socks I wear on my feet lol.

As others have stated.

I use the Red Sea Nylon Mesh socks and rinse in sink or garden hose every two days while cleaning skimmer cup neck.

Also, Those Red Sea mesh socks last at least six months. :)

Turned them inside out and power wash them with garden hose

I do this then I throw them in the washing for two short cycles. The first one with a 1/2 cup of bleach then in the rinse cycle. Hang dry & that's it. Easy peasey.

I hate washing my filter socks in the washing machine but the thought of hand washing them grosses me out more.

After I run my filter socks through the machine with bleach, I empty it and use one of those washing machine cleaner packets. Yes I know they are a scam but something about them (maybe it's the over-refreshing smell) makes me feel better about it all. Lol.

Washing machine: socks inside out, hot water with bleach. Then turn em right side in, no bleach, straight hot water. Socks get clean, machine never smells, lady stays happy!

In an attempt to keep nasties out of the washer, I sterilize them before going into the washer.
I turn them inside out, soak them in a 12 gallon tote with 1/2 cup bleach per gallon of tap water for somewhere between a few hours and a day. I drain the tote. Run the washer on rinse only cycle so get out any left over soap. Then throw the socks in for a regular cycle, hot water, extra rinse, no bleach or soap. After that I rinse them in RO/DI water in a clean tote and air dry. Working good so far.
