Cleaning filter socks (without ending up on the couch)

I stitch my socks myself and have stock of them, use three socks for a month and replace it with next three. In the meantime since I am having only one return I change each day (within three) and power wash the used one with garden hose both inside/outside and then soak them in vinegar/RODI water for an hour or two. Then dry them in sun. Its ready for the next cycle.

Sundays are my laundry day. The wife washes all week long , I never know what she is washing???? Sundays my day , I do my clothes for the week and once a month ( I have enough filter socks for a month) I toss in a load of filter socks , hosed off to get the big debris off , turned inside out with bleach, super hot cycle , extra rinse . I don't even think she knows ???

I keep switching between hand washing with hot water, hot water w/vinegar, hot w/bleach, and the "sanitize" cycle on my washing machine. Maybe one day I will settle down and decide on one method. Having said that, they all work. Some just require more work but have a quicker turn around time.

It's easier to ask forgiveness then permission. Washing machine here. However if you let the washing Machine fill up and beat the socks for a few minutes, skip it ahead to drain all the water and restart the load almost all the garbage is gone and the room doesn't smell. I wash about 8 at once. That's what I do.

I have 8 socks in rotation and change them every 4-5 days. To clean them I first rinse them with the garden hose to get most of the gunk out. After rinsing them they go into a bucket with water and some bleach and soak in there until I'm down to my last sock. Once I'm down to the last sock I take them out of the bucket and run them through the wash twice without detergent or bleach just plain water, first time I turn them inside out. I get about a month out of them before I need to wash them. They look like new when I'm done with the washing.

I just wash them in the machine. Turn them inside out, one cycle with bleach and hot water, one cycle just cold water. Washing machine looks clean, smells clean, no issues.

I just want to know what else I can do to get sent to the couch. My wife washes the filter socks. I still want to end up on the couch though. If that's punishment sign me up.

If you want to be banned to the couch. Spill some tank water on the floor on a regular basics. That should do it for you in no time at all.

Ive never understood the compulsion to bleach and essentially sterilize them. It's primarily a mechanical device that happens to harbor bacteria. A hard rinse on the patio, enough to dislodge the detritus, and moreover with the benefit of chlorinated fresh water, has always been enough for me.

Having a discolored bacteria laden fabric in my system is no more detrimental than my sand bed or rock.

I think the trick is rinsing frequently enough that they don't contribute more nutrients than they prevent.

Right?

Ive washed them before, and given what they smell like coming out of the washer have been tempted to soak them in sodium thiosulfate, just to have piece of mind putting them back in my system.
