How do you clean the front glass (or acrylic) of coraline algae? The regular algae scrubbers don't do a very good job and require a LOT of effort.

A good mag float, and clean it every day, keeps the coraline from growing on the glass.

one of those scrapers that glues onto the mag float...amazing. only thing is the scraper part rusts...whoever invents one that doesn't rust will be a millionaire!

Once you get the Coraline off, you can us a Mr. Clean Majic Eraser to keep the glass clean. Just make sure you get the one without the soap. Works like a charm for daily cleaning.

invest in a good magnet cleaner like the algae free brand and you will never have coralline build up. i recently purchased one to replace an old mag float and the difference is night and day. well worth the $35 investment.

Kent proscrapers for the tough stuff and you can safely clean the acrylic near the sand bed.

Put a Dobie pad (available in the cleaning section of Target) around your magnet. Just cut open the sponge insert and throw it out. The nylon mesh works great for the tougher algae, does not scratch!

The Magic erasers work great for soft algae, also helps get any algae out of fine scratches in the acrylic.

I also save plastic gift cards, and the occasional fake credit card that comes in the junk mail. They make great algae scrapers!

+1 Magfloats are crap, especially for bigger tanks. Magnavore, algae free, or tunze are all great strong magnets you will have for years. They will remove algae the magfloat cannot because they have a much stronger grip on the glass.

I use the doobie. cut the sponge out of the center and place the magnet in the pouch. I use that on my Tiger Shark magnet, cleaning a 300 acrylic. It takes coralline right off.

4in kobalt razor scraper from lowes 4$ for glass only. its made of plastic. followed up with blue scrubby wipe every other day or so.

i like the fake credit cards or gift cards. minimal effort and takes it right off. and occassionally my finger nails...

Ding ding ding! Thats what I use and would never change it!

A single edge razor blade in one of those little yellow plastic holders from Home Depot for $.99 for glass and a credit card for acrylic. Single edge razor blades are $2 for 100 at Harbor Freight.

This is what I use:

I've been using razors to clean my glass of stubburn coraline agea for years and have never scratched the glass. Very great cheap tool.

Yea I have never scratched the glass. As long as you don't turn it on it's corner you should be good!
