when you say cleanse I took that literally and then blasted my cruddy sandbed with a tap water beat down, then rinsed w saltwater, then set back up the tank as if it were brand new but really ten yrs old minus the diaper waste. it work(s) well, keeps the little guy ageless.

why yes, last week :)

its becoming apparent in many tank invasion threads that we start X treatment only after one of these reboots

see dinos thread in the algae forum...that's sandbed cleanings, full tank takedown cleanings, rock rinsings, then the battle against dinoflagellates starts. Everyone else is leaving the dinos in place and coaxing them out, in that thread they're escorted out on site.

the cool part is, these done in correct order are not harmful, they're always regenerative and the corals open up better after organics are scrubbed out.

It can be run anytime and have the same positive outcome, neat technique. total opposite of 90's hands off reefing, much more control over tank and tank invasions by orders of magnitude. It is in fact the fountain of youth for a reef tank, it imparts indefinite biological lifespan to occasionally scrub out organics like a dentist does plaque. It is how a select few systems start algae free and get out to day 3000 algae free.
