Clear slime goo like

I had slime, as well. I tried microbe lift and ordered Dr. Tim's. I couldn't figure it out. It went away within a week of replacing my central air unit. My evaporator (located in the furnace) was filthy with animal fur and dust.

I've had this issue for the last few days as well. I think it was from my son blowing bubbles from his bubble machine in the house. I wasn't home of course. It was getting bad for about 4 days & manual removal, blowing off rocks & sucking out what I can, plus added Rox Carbon and it's getting a lot better. Had to change filter socks about twice a day for a couple days (slimy mess). I also have some Dr. Tims Re-Fresh on the way & dosed a little MB7. My tank is about 1.5 months at this point on an upgrade with dry rock/sand.

I also had this same issue a little over a year ago on my old tank when carpet cleaners sprayed some enzyme crap that they talked my wife into. That time it was less of the long stringy stuff and more of the low fuzz.

Oh, my skimmer always skims a little wet too &'that's been helping as well

After a long break from the slime, I noticed some in my sump this morning. A few days ago, I cooked a sauce for pasta that used a dry wine in the mix. I think evaporated alcohol is to blame this time. No more cooking with wine!

mmmm, theres something else going on there.

Pretty old topic that I'm replying but I'am researching on this same issue that's why I got here, this thing is happening to me right now, I'm going on my third week cycle this weekend, I'm using BA Microbacter 7 too daily, it helps a lot on clearing the water, no filter media yet, just porous bio balls in my AIO sump, pump and heater. I'm vaping also but not near the tank, have 2 cats at home.

I am on the same boat here, getting that fuzz on some live rock. Haven’t been able to find a solid answer as to what it is and what causes it. I’ve seen posts from years ago were people had great water parameters, zero nitrates and phosphates but still had the slime issue. My nitrates were high on the 25-30 ppm and after dosing NO3-PO4-X (slime showed prior to using this) it’s dropped to 5 ppm. I’m still dosing to bring it to zero. Sump was vacuumed and cleaned up along with the skimmer too. Can’t really figure this thing out. I’ve been wiping the slime off from some rocks but I’m sure it might be present in some hidden spots too. Taking all rocks out to scrub them and redoing all aquascape again might be a heavy task and its uncertain if that will eliminate the problem. Tank (100 gal main, 50 gal sump) has been running for four months, it’s covered with a canopy and it has a pair of clowns, pair of mandarins, yellow watchman goby and tail spot blenny, rose bubble tip, long tentacle anemone, toadstool leather, three euphylias, a couple of montis, acans, one small lobo, one small blasto and an elegance coral. I’ve been doing 15% weekly WC. Is there any known treatments for this slime issue yet??

Found this thread because I’m experiencing the same issue. I dose vodka and microbacter 7 daily.

If you have too much visible slime, I’d suggest stopping organic carbon dosing, or maybe switch to vinegar.

I would love to but even with 50ml of microbacter 7 per day and 24ml vodka per day on a 265g system it’s barely putting a dent in my no3 and po4. I’m afraid any changes now will take make my nutrients explode again.

Edit: I should mention this is with a bio media reactor running as well. I just can’t diminish my nutrients efficiently.

Well, if you won’t change what you are doing, don’t expect the slime to go away.

I’ve tried to DM you but I don’t see the option available. I’ve been dealing with several issues including high nutrients for a very long time and even with 15+ years in the hobby and top of the line equipment I haven’t been able to fix it. Would you be willing to do a paid consultation/deep dive into my system?

Sorry, no, I do not have time for private messages or consulting, but I'm happy to continue to discuss your current situation here.

What are the nutrient levels now?

I absolutely understand. My nitrates are currently at 52 and phosphate at .17 but keep in mind this is after several weeks of dosing bacteria and vodka on a 2 year old system.
I have a reefmat and rsk 900 DC skimmer along with a uv sterilizer.
I’m starting to think the rock in my Refugium may be the culprit. It’s filled top to bottom with rocks stacked on top of each other.

Cant really tell from the picture but is that not a massive detritus trap?

If visible bacteria is a big problem, and you are very worried about nutrients rising (I wouldn't be), then switching to a different method such as growing macroalgae or water change may be a suitable alternative.

I’ve had nitrates as high as 160 and phos as high as .9 in the past, and that was feeding only once per day a teaspoon of frozen food to a 265g aquarium, lost several pieces as well. I hope this keeps my from having to dose carbon daily.

My nitrates are down to 28 and phos down to .03.
I’m stopping microbacter7 dosing and decreasing vodka dosing to from 24ml per day to 18ml per day to maintain my nitrates. Does this sound like a good plan?

Yes, that seems reasonable
