Hello All,

I have several large (4" diameted) rocks of Zoas. They are all different colors.
About a week ago the started closing up more and opening less. Now they seem to be closed all the time.

My parameters are:
Temp. 79-80
PH 8.4
Amonia- 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
Calcium 460
KH- 8
Phosphate 0

I have tried them in high flow, low flow and medium flow.
I have tried them in all light exposures.
They have no signs of fungus or Zoa pox.

Any ideas?
Any help would be apreciated.

Steve

Thanks Gang,

I will post some pics tomorrow.

Can you actually see the Nudis and Flatworms?

If so, what do you look for and where?

Thanks,
Steve

The flatworms are roughly rectangular, around 3mm long and the ones I have seen most often are a reddish brown color. The zoo-eating nudis are a gray color with aseries of tear shaped appendages along their back. They vary quite a bit in size but the larger seem about flatwrm size. Trust me. You'll know the little jerks if they start falling off of your colonies.

Hey All,

I did some lookin around in the tank today. I definitely have Nudis. I saw and removed at least 5. They are a grey and whit color.

I am not sure about the flat worms. I don't know what they look like.

I added a Six Line Wrass, a Scooter Blenny and a Yellow Tail Damsel today. Hopefully they will help. I plan to start dipping them tomorrow. I think I will start with lugol's, wait a couple of days and do a fresh water dip, wait a couple of days do a Furan 2 dip, then start over... etc... till they seem healthy again.

I have a couple of Aptaisia. I have a few red and grey things that live in white tubes and look like small feather dusters. I have some other small critters that look like a tiny upright tube with two antena sticking out the top. I also have what apear to be starfish legs sticking out and wiggling from time to time. I also have what apear to be tiny little clear kinda long threads coming off of some of the colonies.

Does all this sound normal or am I just looking way too hard?
Do any of these sound bad?

Let me know,
Steve

While there are different varieties of flatworms, here is one type to help you with identification.

If you "found" a few nudis without dipping I would guess you have many of them. Forget the fish you mentioned as predators. I have not heard of any of them being effective. There is a post over on RC in the zoo forum about a wrasse that is supposedly very effective.
Go to a RO water and Lugols or other iodine dip right away to trya nad start knocking th population down. I wouldn't wait. The longer you wait the more eggs they lay. By the way the eggs don't seem to be effected by any dips I know of.

I think someone bought that wrasse that I know on another forum and he hasn't done much for the nudi's last I heard. That could have changed by now though.

That could be it.....I'm not sure I have only seen them in crappy pictures on-line. I think Mucho used one for his nudis...

I found yellow coris wrasse to be fantastic at taking care of nudis but they need a tank suitable to their size (no nano) :)

I got the fish to help out with the Flatworms. I read on different posts that they would help with Flatworms.

For the Nudis I have started a series of dips. Today I dipped with R/O and Lugols. Next I plan to use Furan2. Then just a FW dip. Then repeat.

How long should I let them rest between dips? 1 day off or 2 etc...?

Thanks for all the great input y'all.
Steve
