Closed and wont open....help>>>>

I would recommend setting up a BB QT tank if you can... the reason behind it being BB is because at night, you'll see the nudis crawl all over the glass and you can just take 'em out with a turkey baster.. ofcourse, you need to do your FW dip and take out the eggsacks.. also, dip them every couple of days as long as they are opening...

pls keep us posted.. :)

Hey Marvin,

The tank in question is a BB prop tank. I have been finding several each day on the glass. I did a RO & Lugols dip on Thurs. Since then I have only found a total of 5 Nudis. I just got through doing a "hunt" using the flashlight and could not find a single Nudi!!! (the lights have been off for 3 hours).

My polyps aren't all opening up yet, but they are better today than yesterday. I would say I had about 20 to 30% open today, as opposed to maybe 2% open a few days ago. I plan to give them another day or two to recover, then dip them again and keep on hunting and removing any Nudis I find.

I have not found any eggs yet. When I did the dip on Thurs. I let them soak in the solution for 5 min. then gently scrubbed with a soft tooth brush, then I put them in another tub with just RO/DI and a small mini jet powerhead and rinsed them in the flow. Maybe I got rid of the egg cases then? ( fingers crossed )

Thanks for the info,
I will keep Y'all updated,
Steve

Sounds like your handling the situation very well Steve! Make sure you give the zoas enough rest time between dipping (a couple days minimum). It may be that your wrasse has started picking up some of the slack in eating these guys too. I have had wonderful success in the past with wrasse ridding my tank of pests. In case you do miss any egg sacks you will probably want to plan on doing another inspection and series of dips in a few weeks (around when the eggs will hatch). I'm really glad you've been so proactive with treating this problem and look forward to seeing some pics :)

Sea Grass wrasse are good. I had one but they turn over everything and will target your snails and crabs. I bought one for precautionary measures. Oh yeah, did I mention they jump. Mine did, right out of the tank, he is no more.:horse:

I would recommend doing the dips for atleast 5-6 weeks so your chance of having the baby nudis would be less.. :)

again, good job... looks like you're winning the battle.. :D

Thanks Everyone!!!

I haven't found any Nudis since yesterday at around Noon.
Not even last knight with a flash light.
But I intend to do the dips for another 5 weeks to be sure they are gone for good.

I have noticed a small amount of fungus on some of them. I think it is probably a result of the stress of the whole situation. I will make my next dip a Furan 2 dip, followed by a Ro/DI rinse.

Maybe I will alternate between Lugols and Furan 2 for the next 5 weeks and see how it goes. I am also going to tear down and reset my 10 Gal. QT.
From now on every new incoming will get a Lugols and RO dip followed by quarantine!!!

I also noticed something strange last night. Two of the colonies had long strands coming off of them and wriggling around and attaching to the racks. They are very thin and almost transparent and anywhere from 1/2" to 3" long. (and not ust a few of them... lots of them) I think they must be some type of worm. Any ideas? I also noticed a few Hydroids. What gets rid of them?

Thanks Y'all,
Steve

Did a Furan 2 and RO/DI dip tonight.
They are starting to look better. I haven't found any Nudis since Sat.
2 of the colonies have some fungus. Hopefully the Furan 2 will solve that problem.

I would estimate that about 40% to 50% of the polyps are opening now, as opposed to about 2% to 5% when I started treating.

It is an uphill battle, but I think I will win!!!

Thanks for all the support,
Steve

Hello All,

I have been keeping up with the dips and everything is looking good. I still have not seen any new Nudis. The fungus is all gone. The polyps are almost all open again.

I only lost about 8 to 10 % of my polyps total. Most of that was on the 2 colonies that had Fungus.

I am very pleased with the outcome so far and have learned a great deal.

Thanks to all of you!!!

I will keep you posted,
Steve

Excellent news! I'm so grateful that we all learned about what Furan can do for fungus and pox as it has saved a ton of stuff for myself and others :)

Hey All,

I have kept up the dips. The last dip was yesterday. It was Furan2, followed by a rinse in RO/DI.

I have not seen any bugs since 2 days after the first dip. The fungus has been gone since 3 days after the first Furan2 dip.

I think I have it beat, but I will probably still do 2 more dips.

I want to thank you all for your help and support!!!!!

I have tried to document every step here so it may be help to others in the future. If I can offer any details to anyone, don't hesitate to P.M. me!!

Thanks everyone!!!
Steve
