Something just occurred to me... How large is the hermit? Certain larger hermits are a detriment to fish, as they like to ambush them at night.

About 30mm but my clowns don't rest on the rocks at night they hover midway in the corner of my tank when the light are on

IMO; a 1 inch hermit crab is a problem. They are opportunistic feeders who will try to take down whatever they feel they can for a meal. Even the tiny blue/red legs can become a problem if they get too big.

I couldn't find it in any of the links you sent me, but I saw someone from Cape Town talk about using "Vita-chem" in another forum. So it must be available there. You can soak that in fish food as the first line of defense, but if that doesn't work and the infection gets worse you will need to soak food in Seachem Kanaplex (an antibiotic) plus Seachem Focus (a binder).

If it was the hermit , wouldn't it start out as a flesh wound?

Yes, but infection can set in quickly sometimes. I would try just soaking his food in Vita-chem for now (or some other comparable fish vitamin supplement.) But you might want to get your hands on some Seachem Kanaplex just in case this takes a turn for the worst.
