Hey reefers,

A month and a half ago I decided to join the salt water family. Decided to get the FUSION 30L. Long story short the cycle was completed and I decided to get a pair of clown on Friday the 6th. Today I've noticed that one of them has what it seems to be a white spot in the mouth but what made me freaked out was what I saw him/her having what I would call spasms? I was able to record two videos showing exactly what I saw. Already did a LOT of research and it seems that a lot of people have different opinions about what it can be.

They are eating perfectly fine.

GO TO 0:35 - Look how it shakes...

GO TO 0:20 - Same thing happens and you can see some of the white stuff that I mentioned above.

thanks you so much to all of you

It's hard to tell due to the quality of the video but the shaking or vibrating looks like it occurs when the clowns are close to one another which would lead me to say that its the male being submissive to the female.

Seizure like shaking is very much common among clownfish. They spaz to show that they accept the other a dominant. This is how they will determine which one will be female and the other male. Don't worry mine do it all the time.

Hi ,

Thanks a lot for the fast reply man. They quality can be adjusted. I filmed in 1080p 60 frames to make sure you guys could see it. The clown is literally vibrating, twitching. I'm so worried.

Thanks a lot for you input 1MCp,

What you guys think about the white "stain" in the mouth of the one that is "vibrating"?

Not sure what that is, but the fish behaviour don't look like there is anything problematic, is the white thing stringy or is it like a fuzzy growth?

Honestly I could be dumb enough to say it's normal. Also another funny thing is that he was trying to "eat" sand I guess? Like, rubbing I could say.

Best Pic so far.

This same area in the other clown looks so orange to me.

Let me basically write out the day to day to do list of clownfish haha.

1. Twitch like there is no tomorrow.
2. Bicker with their paired partner.
3. If you have anemone, rubbing the anemone and more bickering together over the anemone.
4. Bit more twitching.
5. Kick with body and tail the sand around them and make your tank foggy from time to time.
6. Twitch some more and bicker if their busy schedule allows.

General whiteness can occur while they acclimate to their new environment or feel a bit stressed.

Dude I don't even know how to thank yo for being so fast...

For me I think they seem pretty happy due the fact that they're swimming around the hole tank. But man is sooooooo hard to read these creatures. I just don't want them to die =/

Also as an FYI, clownfish are one of the hardiest fish you can keep. They are warriors. I had a tank crash earlier when I started the hobby, and these guys survived a fully clouded tank for a whole night before I could rescue them, all my other fish died. This happened because of a perfect storm situation of power outage causing my fans, filtration and heater to turn off for the entire night.

Don't worry about clownfish, you'll see everything else die or rot long before it gets these guys. Keep me posted on your fish, I will share what I learned with you as much as I can.

I wish my clowns would swim around the aquascape like these. Mine sit in a corner until feeding time :(

Clownfish are just that, clowns. They swim stupid, do weird things, swim sideways, upside down and generally clown around. My female is now 3x as big as her buddy and she'll still occasionally twitch for him.

At least yours are swimming around your entire tank! Mine pretty much hug the back wall and I am pretty sure have hosted with my powerhead.

And don't be surprised if they get a bit nippy once they're comfortable in the tank. I sometimes have to fend off the female with a net when I have to get an arm in the tank for maintenance.

Just for precaution I would recommend looking at diseases such as ich, velvet, and brooklynella "clownfish disease". I cant see any of those from the videos or pictures you have posted but just in case.

This so much! I wish mine swam around to be enjoyed more!

Thank you so much, I've heard that a lot that's why I decided to get them first. My tank never saw a single piece of algae. I just hope they don't get sick.

FYI - Water Parameters - Red Sea Test

PH - 7.9
KH - 8.5
Amonia - 0
Nitirite - 0
Nitrate - 2

So I got lucky? Cuz these guys spent the HOLE day playing all over the tank "it looks like they're playing hide and seek" until bed time.

Thanks for sharing that. I got them on Friday so I'm not sure how long it will take to one of them becomes the female.

Definitely I'll keep my eye on that. I hope nothing happens. My main concern was the tiny white stain on the bottom lip.

Guys I was able to get better pics regarding the white stain in his/her mouth.

Has the Clown been picking up sand with his mouth? If so it's most likely a bit of abrasion round his mouth.

Sometimes their mouths get a little swollen from bickering and nipping at each other. I wouldn't worry about it.
