Clownfish help!

So I got the quarantine tank.. How would you recommend for me to do the water?? Do I have to do it all brand new and fill up the tank or at least get 5 gallons from my DT and rest new water?? In still confused all this is new to me! sorry :/

I set mine up brand new. New water, the works. The only thing i did was to get a big rock out of my sump. It served two purposes. It held down the frag rack, which wanted to float with nothing on it.... and it held enough bacteria in it to have the tank do a fast cycle. I feed the corals every couple days to keep the bacteria going as well.

Okay thank you!!! I'm trying to do this right and in actually excited :D

No chemicals. Just keep in QT? Any need to seed the tank?

You can get by with minimal biological filtration, as corals/inverts still do produce small amounts of waste = ammonia. That one live rock Meredith put in her QT gets the job done just fine. :)

Okay but since I'm not doing mine for corals basically just fish. I don't need the live rock right?? Is there something else I can place ? Or can I just place a tiny rock.

Oh, well you'll want a completely different QT system then. No rock/substrate for a fish QT. I personally use an Aquaclear HOB power filter in mine for biological filtration. These come with a sponge that you can seed with nitrifying bacteria. Place the sponge in a high flow area of your DT’s sump for at least one month prior to QT. OR you can seed with a "bacteria in a bottle" product (exs. Bio-Spira, Seachem Stability, Dr Tim's Nitrifying Bacteria) a few days before QT/adding meds.

I prefer a small piece of rock, some use media that's placed in the back of their filter. I have rock just for this, with the day my dt is stocked this will be turned into a clown tank for my wife probably, have a 10g as qt and some plastic bins.

Yes. I was referring to my coral QT, not a fish QT. Fish QT is a different beast all together. Of course you dont have to worry about cycling or bacterial colonies while doing TTM.... just the tank they end up in at the end of the treatment. That one should have a sponge or media thats been colonized with bacteria in the filter.

So far my clownfish has been very very active and healthy. Lucky he did not have ich, but I'm glad I set up the quarantine tank for the future.
Anyway.. Couple of questions.. 1) I started noticing the smaller one (male) he starts like biting on the live rock. Is this normal.
Also before I didn't have a protein skimmer and my water look pretty bad today I was gone all day and came back and my water looks 10x better.. A++ on protein skimmer. I'll post a picture of how my water was before the skimmer.

They will (both) sometimes start cleaning off a rock before laying eggs.
