Clownfish on the bottom gasping

He looks very malnourished. I would take him out of the main tank and into quarantine and try to get him to eat. If he's not eating, it will be difficult to keep him alive.

I guess I only have myself to blame for following the advice posted here. Freshwater dip was a bad idea and should not be a first step for fish in this condition.

Fresh water dip works your supposed to move him around with your finger keep him swimming for a about a minute or 2 then pull him out

He looks malnourished. You can see its face is all sunken in. Probably hasnt been eating for a while now. A freshwater dip isnt bad to check for parasites. But I'd assume he just wasnt eating.

I agree he looks like he hasn't been eating and does look skinny it's just part of this hobby it sucks to go through it but it happens dont let it discourage you I just lost a gem tang a few days ago I know the feeling I'm sure everyone in this room does too. Good luck

How did your gem tang die? That really really sucks

It's still a mystery he was eating and everything was fine had him like 9 or 10 months then I saw he wasn't anywhere to be seen he never hid not even on day one so all I can think is he grazed the wrong coral then the emeralds got him or he had something wrong with him that wasn't visible but he never stopped eating or being active so it really sucks not to know

I don't think clowns would graze on coral and I don't think an emerald crab would attack it. I think it could possibly an internal parasite

No that was a question someone asked about my gem tang

Op's clown can also possibly have gill flukes. The clown's gill looks pretty roughed up. A freshwater dip will not work on gill flukes. I would probably try metro and prazi or general cure first.

I see this is a black storm clownfish. I’ve heard from local LFS there is history of poor survival of these (he didn’t know the reasons, but did raise a point on never seeing adults of these around. They are always really small). Hoping that’s old history though. That said, I also took a chance and have one about your size.

I have a full size adult black storm.

It sounded like she was really struggling. I think people were hoping that the freshwater dip would clear out all gill obstructions so she could breathe.

They need than just mysis.
What is you salinity level and tank temperature?
Have you noticed when it poops if it’s white and stringy?

If the FW dip did him in, chances are he would not have made it anyway, unfortunately.

FW dip is a good move, especially when caught early, it can give some insight to what is going on and most fish that are getting sick have no problem with it.

Fish looked to have been struggling for awhile with sunken face. Really sorry about your loss, it is the worst part about this.
