So one Black and White Ocellaris and one Picasso Clown take up residence in my tank. It wasn’t always that way though. Originally, I had 2 Picassos. They spawned more than once but the female about a two year’s ago got dangerously thin and died. An internal parasite I believed. Sad. :disappointed-face: So I purchased a small Black and White clown. They looked good together. Still do.

1. Are your clownfish identical?

2. Do you like to mix it up?

3. How long have they been with you?

How did I choose them? They had an official "kill count" of 23 (it's something like 25 now).

1. Somewhat (though I think one is a percula and the other an ocellaris).
2. Sure, but I can't add more clownfish or the pair I have will kill them.
3. About a year and a half.

Originally I had a pair, two Black Photons. Why did I chose them? They were abnormally cheap and they’re a stunning colouration.
Did they look identical? No, my male was a Misbar whilst the female was a grade A.
Do I like to mix it up? Sometimes, if I could repair the misbar I’d try to find something unusual such as a Thielle’s Clownfish.
How long were they with me? The pair altogether was with me for Atleast a year then the female just vanished and my misbar became the dominant female. If I could pair her I would but she’s been alone for Atleast a year now so I don’t think that’ll happen.

Interesting origins with your Black Photons. Some Sanjay originals. Very nice fish.

Photos will never do them justice either. I love them, have to be one of my favourite designers now. I’m just waiting for someone to make a “Long-Fin Black Photon”. Although I don’t like the modified long fins on some fish due to them impacting the fish’s swimming it doesn’t seem to have that impact on clowns for some reason.

Some LFS in the U.S. tend to accommodate hobbyists and provide multiple strains when it comes to clowns. How are things in the U.K. ?

Over here it’s more they’ll get so many of one clown strain then so many of another then the next few weeks will be another two or three different strains. Never come across longfins though, then again it’s rare to find anything outside of the common percula and occelaris strains.

Similar here. They may have 5-10 designated tanks for various clowns. Which I like that they do that. But yes long fins are rare as well.

Nice looking fish! But of course that only goes so far. Try selling!

I bought two tiny ORA Ocellaris a Clownfish from Liveaquaria back in May 2019. I recently took them out of my DT and put them into their own 20H to see if I can get them to breed.

Very nice. I’m sure they will. If you haven’t already, start researching the live food requirements for clownfish fry. Good luck!

We have two Ocellaris Clowns I bought at my lfs. They immediately fell in love with each other and are inseparable. I don’t think I would add another, I don’t want to upset their union. They have only been in our tank for about two months tops.

I started with a harem

I have two Ocellaris clownfish. My LFS had a bonded pair that they sold me when I just started my reef. I took their advice and even though they bite me I still love the little darlings. The female has been with me the last year and a half, the male is new since I changed over to the bigger tank about 6 months ago as the original male managed to get out of the tank one night. Found the poor bugger on the floor in the morning. Bonnie seems to like the new Clyde better anyway. She was always at the first one, doesn't act the same with this one.
