Colorado vs Chicago Sunburst Anemone ID

I find that pink tips aren't the best indicator of true lineage. The marbled foot of the colorado is pretty distinct though.

Here's a Sang Lee lineage CSB with partial pink tips.

Here is the same CSB a couple months ago.

They shift colors pretty easily.
To the untrained eye knowing what to look for in a marbled foot is hard to define. your photo to me is very easy to tell its not a rainbow. I know lots of cultivators for colorado sunbursts and have yet to see one with the pink tips like a rainbow. I also have yet to see anyone color shift a rainbow to not have the pink tips. Im growing a bunch of Chicago sunbursts getting them to color shift with different t5 bulb configurations and still cant get the rainbow pink tips.

very easy indicator without getting your hands wet. also most sellers online will not show photo of foot

Here is one of my Chicago sunburst great indicator for Chicago is streaks of green in tentacles (anyone that doesn’t know)

There is also like a spider wedding in the oral disc. Heres are some of my sunburst I have heard that some might lose the marbleing but I have fragged probably over 20 and all of them have the marbeling

Lineage is important from where they got it from but I could care less where they got it from if it doesn't look like a csb I wouldn't waste that money on it

Mines just speckled green at the base. Is this a true Chicago? I got it from TSA.

It is a rise bubble tip. I think most of the fancy names are just variants due to lighting, water chemistry and who knows what else. I have had rose BTAs with grean streaks and green in their base only to have it go away after a while. Same with white streaks and bubbles. I gave a freind a cloan of my rainbow anemones and it looks completly different in his tank.

Depends on what you paid for it. I hope not the crazy price some people are asking for them. I paid too much for an anemone my self a couple years ago. It looked incredable when I bought, however it looked nothing like it had I’m my tank. I was very disappointed. It’s a nice looking anemone, just enjoy it.

No you didn't, It looks like a red phase chicago. They don't always have pronounced green streaks but they can develop them as they mature. Any bta can't become a "fancy bta", they either are one or not, colors of any bta can improve depending on its care though.

Was at the lake house and came back to some of the tips now being pink. They were a dark red and now the ones that are pink are shorter than the others that are still dark red. Mouth is getting greener too. This picture had to be taken without the orange filter or it didn’t look right but it made it look super vibrant. Way more than it is to my eyes.

So all these chicago and colorado gain their color from lighting and other factors? So what happens if they are introduced to tanks with complete different setup? Do they become non recognisable and loose their very trait that made them a "chicago" or "colorado"?

Also why does kessil led good for yellow color? What makes them so different compared to say Red Sea Leds?

What would be the call on this one?

They may morph a bit, but for the most part, they keep their colors -- that's what makes them ChSBs and CSBs.

Something about the LED chip that Kessil uses tends to bring out more yellow. However, I've noticed that it was more pronounced with the older 350s that only had white and blue LEDs. The newer versions with more colors don't change them to yellow as much -- at least in my experience (I have four A350x)

That looks like a typical rainbow--the photo is super saturated and taken under heavy blue lighting (the white eggcrate is clearly blue) but the pink tips are indicative of RBTAs.

I agree with you. It’s black eggcrate though.

Interesting. What about bleaching? If CSB or ChSB ever bleach, do they get their same color back after healing?

Moreover, would color among Nems be shared if say there were CSB in BW in the same tank, say in a 500g tank
