What are prime conditions for diatoms?Since it only grows on the sand, I’m betting diatoms.
It does go away at night. My thought was always it suspends into water column at night means it's dinosLOOKS like it. Does it get bubbles? disappears (or almost does) at night reappears in the morning gets worse throughout the day?
would have to go under a microscope for "100%" but really looks like it to me.
Usually new tanks or lots of silicate. Does it have lots of bubbles? Do you have a close up pic? What are prime conditions for diatoms?
Tank is year and a half old now. No bubbles or silicatesUsually new tanks or lots of silicate. Does it have lots of bubbles? Do you have a close up pic?
They're photosynthetic so it makes sense.. time will tellHmm, I don't remember. It's been a while since I had them. I would guess so.
Very odd to have a diatom bloom in a 1.5 year old tank unless you've added new sand or dosing silicates...or possible if not using RODI water.
I'm leaning toward dinos... small cell amphidinium dinos look like this early on... they don't always have strands and don't always produce bubbles. I've had them look just like these pics.
Try to get a sample under a microscope and then we can definitely identify.
List your tanks parameters....no3, po4, ph, temp, etc...
I don't hate you or want to shoot you. I'm too cheap to get a microscope and it's biting me to not properly I'dHonestly just get us a closer up shot of this part.
I'm 99% sure dinos. :X don't shoot me.
I have kessils so it's just blues I don't go over 20%Looks more diatom like
Dino will be golden brown and stringy and look like snot with bubbles
Reducing white light intensity will help
