Copperband butterfly

Agree entirely. They need a low energy place to eat. Honestly, best practice is to house them with one or two other very docile, non-fast moving fish that feed well. They seem to succumb to "peer pressure" IME.

Big tangs, wrasse, and angels though can intimidate them and accomplish the opposite goal.

Live blackworms and live brine work well for these fish.

I got my cbb today. Put him in quarantine with my flamehawk I got him last week. That cbb is beautiful though. Also going to hatch my own brine to always have a supply. Right now I have the lights off in quarantine to relieve the stress for the little guy.

Good luck! Make sure you have well established live rock in there and I'd forget about the brine personally they are too tiny when hatched. Get those black worms!

May I suggest that you should never ever a fish in the middle of quarantine process . It's just best practice so as not to restart the qt process . I have had so many incidents where diseases were transmitted to the new one from the existing fish in quarantine .
May be @Humblefish canncorrect me if I am wrong .

One thing that I don't think was mentioned is this thread is that copperbands are a risk to corals especially LPS.

Whenever you add a new fish to QT, it's like starting over from Day 1 for all fish in QT. No matter how long the other fish have already been in QT. So, it's less than ideal.

And keep in mind that not all diseases are easily fixable with copper or Prazipro. A fish carrying a gram negative bacterial infection can spread it like wildfire in a QT and in most cases, antibiotics are not dosed in time to prevent a wipeout.

How long do you guys think it will be until the cbb starts to eat?

There is no answer to this question. You need to be actively enticing it to eat.

My favorite trick is taking an empty clam shell and putting a serving of black worms inside of it. The visual of the clam and the movement of the worms is attractive to stubborn eaters.

Live brine, impregnate coral skeletons with frozen food, etc. Get creative and you can get it eating something first, then try transitioning to prepared foods...

Did you see it eat before you bought it? I got mine eating with PE mysis and LRS. Those are still what it primarily eats but for what ever reason he also goes to town on nori.

It's not going to take any food from the water column at first. It needs to pick it from rock. Take a piece out and squish the frozen into it and definitely try black worms

Here is my 2 cents . I actually bought one that was specifically not eating in the LFS as it just arrived from wholesellers .
I knew I would have wayyyy better chance of making it eat than LFS .
The greatest trick is to buy fresh market clams , slice it open and let it eat for a week .
You need it to be strong to withstand prazi treatment .
Then slowly put foods like Masstick or black worms inside clam shell along with little clam to eat .

Slowly start putting mysis cubes pressses inside clam shell after that .
Then ultimately start dropping food in the water column .

If you are going to treat it with antibiotics especially prazi , please make sure it eats first and make it strong enough before treatment .
As even the healthiest species stop eating sometimes during prazi .

I fed frozen dr. Rods and lrs mixed. It was so swimming around like crazy when I put food in the tank so I'm guessing it ate some it was hard to tell but he seems to be really active and not scered

When it starts coming to the front of the tank and shaking it's head when you approach you know you're golden!
Yep, mine does this when I get home from work. As soon as I walk through the door he see's me and starts to swim back and forth while doing the head shake. It's his way of telling me to hurry up with those Black Worms.

Our cbb eats anything! Always has. Including welsos and acans! Finally found one that had zero issues, wasnt shy, ate like a pig but in a matter of 2 months everything in the tank was closed up and very unhappy. He nips everything! We caught him, and dropped him in our 30g fish only tank until we get a bigger fish only up and running.

That's a shame Tim, really bad luck. I know a lot of people have issues with feather dusters/tube worms but I think your experience is not the norm. I know mine hasn't even looked at a coral.

I love the CBB and tried to keep a few, but they always died. I'd make sure they were eating at the LFS and had been there for a few weeks, but I tried 3 different times over the course of about a year and a half and each time they'd seem to be doing ok, and eating, but eventually would stop eating and die. It broke my heart each time so now I've decided no more CBB for my tank. Good luck! They are beautiful fish :)
Did you qt them and de-worm/treat for internal parasites?
