Hi guys

I recently bought a copperband from a LFS. The copperband was eating mysis at the shop and that's why I got it.

I am now also feeding it mysis. However it takes it in and spits it out. Is it eating? And any suggestions where I go from here?

This is as far as I've gotten one to eat lol. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you

It sounds like it’s not eating if it’s spitting the food out. You should try putting some blood worms on a rock. Copper bands like to find there food in and on the rocks. Do you have him in quarantine? If so get some rock with aptasia on it. Just don’t put it in your main display. The goal is to get it eating regularly. I put my CB in my tank after quarantine and he has gained weight eating the aptasia in my main display. Yes I’m smiling as a I write that last sentence.

I'll try to get some aiptasia for it to eat. I put a rock full of feather dusters for it to eat. I think it should be the same.

You could also try Masstick. I don't like the premixed stuff as it has an odor that is not the same as the powdered.

Yes he should eat the feather dusters. If my CB isn’t eating aptasia he’s bullying the snow flake eel. I don’t know what his hang up is with the eel. I hope yours gets with the program soon.

Yes on the powdered not so much on the premix.

You can also push it into the rocks or into an empty clam shell. You can also feed clams from what I've read, never done it though.

We lost ours sometime last night/this morning :( It seemed like it had stopped eating the last few days no matter what food we tried. Cubes, massstick, cut up mussels, etc. It just didn't go after any of it. Put it in an acclimation box yesterday where it wouldn't have any competition for food and this morning it was dead. I think unfortunately our tank is too aggressive when it comes to feeding time for one. Just really sad that we had it for almost a month before it just decided to stop eating.

The sad truth is you can do everything right, the fish will seem perfectly healthy for weeks or even months, and then out of nowhere it stops eating and dies. There are so many variables that come into play through collection, holding, shipping and even a fishes pre determined life span. Some fish just never make it in home aquariums.
