Copperband Butterfly

The sad truth is you can do everything right, the fish will seem perfectly healthy for weeks or even months, and then out of nowhere it stops eating and dies. There are so many variables that come into play through collection, holding, shipping and even a fishes pre determined life span. Some fish just never make it in home aquariums.
That's just the sad truth about the hobby. Once you understands that, you'll always have a peace of mind.

Much the same as other pets we keep at home. Sometimes there is just something in their DNA for lack of a better term, and they can't tell us what's wrong.

I don't think mine likes mastic. I use the premade though. I didn't know there was a powder. May have to try that one. I put the easy mastic on a clam shell though. Other fish love it.

If you smell the premixed stuff, it has an odd odor about it. The powdered stuff smells like fish food even dry. And @Retro Reefer had the premixed stuff burn a hole in his Trachy as well.

Ok - going to preference this by saying I didn't run to go smell it :) However, I just caught this reply as I was actually putting in some Nori for some of the fish in the tank and also some of the easy mastic. So what do I do? I go back, open the can, and smell it :) Yeah - it does have something.

I have nothing to compare it to so I'm going to order the non premade just to test. The other few fish I have do it it but I'm curious to see what the difference is now :D In any case it is probably good to have.

Thanks btw. I appreciate the information although I have never fed coral with it. I use something called Coral Heaven from indo pacific sea farms.

Hi guys

I recently bought a copperband from a LFS. The copperband was eating mysis at the shop and that's why I got it.

I am now also feeding it mysis. However it takes it in and spits it out. Is it eating? And any suggestions where I go from here?

This is as far as I've gotten one to eat lol. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you

Good article about feeding them. Most everyone seem to have good experience with clams;

One thing I found about clams/mussels. Granted I probably did it wrong but still something to watch out for.
Before our CBB passed, I tried some fresh mussels from the store. I cracked open the shells, got rid of the little pieces of shell and cut the meat loose. I dropped a couple bigger pieces of shell with meat in the tank. Our scooter blenny was the first to go after it and I wound up having to play fish Dr on him. He got a big piece of meat stuck to either his gill or mouth ( I couldn't tell which). I had to get him in a net and take a pair of tweezers and gently pull on the meat to get it off him. That was 2 weeks ago and he seems fine still so whew.
Also our horseshoe crab ran over a piece and got the meat and shell stuck to him and proceeded to freak out all over the tank. So i had to do the same thing with him.

If I feed fresh clam or mussel to our tank again I'm going to make sure to chop the pieces up a lot smaller than I did and probably just drop them in the tank.
