Copperband & flame angel going in

Yaa he/she was acting fine yesterday (first day) exploring & picking rocks eating mysis off the floor, hopefully it’s just tweaking becos I just rescaped a lil and added more rock for habitat like 2 hours ago
I'd probably hold off any more tweaking until you get the CBB on the road to recovery. Whenever I introduce a new fish I try to feed everyone else prior while acclimating (then they're a bit more laid back and just curious to check out the new addition).

Would a mesh one be okay? Only one I have on hand, also feel like it would be more stressed since there’s nowhere to hide? I don’t think he will fit in 2” pvc either if I use that in the box
Mesh one sounds pretty small. How big is your tank?

He was leaning against a rock breathing hard still, caught him easily, he wasn’t really trying to get away, will freshwater dip for few min now & put in 5 gal bucket with heater & pump & DT water

rip to the poor guy, going to leave him until the morning to be sure, I bought him exactly 36 hours ago (330pm Saturday, wwc smaller store 15 min from my house,) would the fish have died if I put him into qt instead of DT? Believe it was bacterial infection, hope my other fish will be okay, bought 14 fish (3 from wwc) & the only 2 that died before this one had jumped so this is a bummer, is it my fault or just bad luck with the fish?

Does your CBB look any different color wise from the less expensive one? How is he and the flame doing?

CBB is very hard to keep and you didn't qt or acclimate it. You have to accept that there's a high chance your CBB won't make it unless you willing to pay top dollars for a quarantined one.

Did you add all 14 fish at once?

“Not my experience” So the Tang aggression that my CBB experienced when (5 years ago) I first introduced him was more of what I like to call banishment. My 5 year old Blue H. Tang (at the time) didn’t care. Didn’t yet have my Sailfin, but my Yellow Tang quickly let the new CBB know whose tank it was. The Yellow went on to push the CBB into one corner. It was quite obvious that’s where he wanted him to say. The CBB suffered no physical abuse. Ate in that corner for over a month. Little by little though Yellow lost interest. And the Butterfly slowly but surely made its way out of the corner (literally) inch by inch. He wore down the Yellow Tang who again lost interest. It was fascinating to watch but as long as no fins are ripped and it appears to be all territorial, I’d do it again. Also feed your CBB at least twice a day. If you have a medium to high flow tank, your other fish will eat triple the food your CBB will. Great fish!!!! Morning lights are just coming on. Just took this.

While this may be true (I've read cases where pre quarantined fish developed issues) I would prefer to quarantine myself. But to be fair I have never purchased fish QTed by the vendor. I also have started observation only QT for sensitive fish like CBB. I realize it can be risky but if a fish is thriving in QT after 30 - 60 days with no signs of disease I'm comfortable introducing it to the DT.

100%. I only suggested buying pre quarantined fish because the OP said he doesn't do his own QT. I have a nano tank thats used for observation QT. It goes fishless for months since I don't buy fish that much anymore. But I had a CB that was eating everything in the QT for 45 days. Put it into my display and it stopped eating because of aggression from other fish. That's why I now do observation QT and then acclimation box.

Back to OP's issue, it seems like OP started this tank 3 months ago and quickly added 14 fish. Definitely a risk adding a copperband this early.

Thanks & no qt only acclimation, & no definitely not

If I did a observational qt I believe he would’ve still died, he was looking bad in less than 24 hr & dead in little less than 36 hr, I just know to buy my fish(& coral cos f world wide) from @TopShelfAquatics , where they give a 48 (or 72) hour warranty for 15$ for harder/expert level fish, the people at @Worldwidecorals didn’t tell me anything about the copperband being a difficult fish and didn’t offer any kind of warranty & caught it with a net instead of a cup/container which should be done for more delicate fish

Died 35 hours after purchase, told it was a gram negative bacterial infection, can that kill a fish that quickly & will it transfer to my other fish?
