Coppersafe dosage incorrect on bottle?

Not really fair that she gets to add 2 1/2 cups for 250g and you need to add 3 cups for 190g.

I guess I'll throw mine in the ring. At the store, when I do a water change of ~250 gallons on the fish system I add about 2 1/2 cups of copper safe to it to keep it at therapeutic levels.

Do you still test every time or do you trust that it will be right since it always has been in the past?

Looking up information on the Kordon product and they show a 4oz bottle treating 100g which is about what I expected. But you need almost all of it for 40g.
Any chance you can look and see if it is also 2.2% concentration?

Well ... darnit ... I _know_ I read that _somewhere_ . . .

The bottle I have in my hand doesn't list the concentration of copper, only says "Active Ingredients: Chelated Copper Sulphate".

Last trip through, I had a blue-jaw trigger and flame angel come down with white spots - dumped most of a 4-oz bottle into my 40 B, and the two fish are now happily swimming in my display, in what appears to be excellent health. (Except that the blue-jaw has gone all dark brown, including what ought to be yellow in his fins. That blue jaw? Kind of looks like a 5:00 shadow. He was a much paler color when I brought him home, with brilliant yellow edging . . . )

I test daily. It's always on point But I work hard to keep it that way, especially with water being taken out for bagging fish and that same water being replaced. It's the worst on my days off

I'm not sure about that. If it were a QC issue with the Coppersafe itself then Melypr wouldn't get consistent results as she must be using mutliple bottles/batches.

Has to be something else going on.

I'm beginning to wonder if the type of salt used makes a difference. I am using Reef Crystals right now. I think we may be seeing an impact from the chaelating agent that is used.

@melypr1985 Does your API kit look more yellow than what is shown on the card or do the colors match fairly closely?

You are correct. Their dosage seems to be meant for those that keep copper in their displays all the time (such as in a freshwater tank though I dont know anybody who keeps copper in the FW tanks).

Yes, you most certainly need to treat the QT tank for velvet. By removing the fish you will have reduced the number of free swimming parasites they are exposed to but they will still be there and can multiply quickly.

I'm using plain 'ole Instant Ocean. Does plastic absorb any appreciable amount of copper? Wondering if the 2 plastic water troughs I'm using are soaking a large enough amount out of the water that it would affect testing?

Maybe it's a problem with the API copper test kits, as you had suggested to me previously.

Plastic will absorb copper and other chemicals/medications. How much I cannot say.

I will keep a close eye on it to see if levels continue to decrease as the month goes on

No I haven't noticed a yellow tint, just shades of orange. Are you seeing yellow on your test?

Definitely, which makes a color match very difficult since the sample card is more tan/peach (not a color pro here!)
I know others comment on the yellow tint, also.

Hmm, yeah that would definitely make interpretation harder! I ordered a Chemets copper test off Amazon that will be here tonight, so I'll see how it stacks up against the results. And I never actually found confirmation that the Chemets test works with chelated copper, which I started wondering about after I purchased it, so I'm really hoping I didn't just waste $70.

It's fairly close to the coloration on the card. A bit different, but close enough for me to tell. We order the large gallon jugs of Coppersafe for using in our fish system (900 gallons) and we go through probably a jug or two a month ( I've never kept track, but the math should be easy enough). I also go through test kits pretty quick so I'm not using the same one for very long at all. I don't know if that helps at all though.
