Anyone know how to set there pump to say 500 gph with the flow meter in code?

I know you can specify a speed/percentage in an If-Then statement e.g. ‘If FeedA then 20’to set the speed at 20% when FeedA is activated, but I don’t know of an easy way to ramp the speed up or down to achieve a flow. I believe that would require a bit more advanced programming structures than Apex is designed for/capable of. Have you checked on the Nepune forums?

I used the 1.25” union but I wish I had kept the union from my Varios to use instead.

Yeah, I wish I would have thought to do that, but I went and glued the union before I even thought to check if they were the same size.

Despite being smaller than what we’re used to, I doubt the depth of the slip connectors is an issue. Return pluming is fairly low pressure and the standard cemented PVC slip connection is probably 2-3 orders of magnitude stronger than it needs to be.

That’s probably true. The standard for these fittings probably has more to do with really long horizontal runs that may not be supported, are behind a wall, etc. I didn’t realize that vectra has an equally short collar. I haven’t heard of any of those leaking so this seems like an imagined issue on my part rather than a real one.

Changing speeds for other pumps is more complicated than for the COR as it involves creating profiles and assigning a profile rather than just specifiying a speed. I think I remember someone asking a question like yours on the forum a while ago and someone replying that it couldn’t be done, but I can’t be positive.

I thought about trying to program mine to automatically keep a specific flow but the more I thought about it the more I realized it is just as easy to do manually and I would rather make tht type of adjustment myself since you shouldn't need to do it all tht often. In my case it should only be needed if flow through something on my manifold changes. If the flow diminishing because of a blockage in the input of the pump I really wouldn't want the pump ramping up as that may cause more issues.
 
So I modified my Cor-20 to have a strainer.
This is from an older Jebao pump I had. I cut the opening to fit around the threads on the intake, then screwed on Neptune's grey fitting piece to hold it in place and the strainer from the Jebao pump clicks right on....perfect.

Anyone using it external? Curious of the noise it may have being external.
... and heat production/transfer. Mine’s drawing 60 watts running at 70%. There’s no significant means of heat dissipation, and plastic is not the best heat sink, so hopefully heat build up isn’t an issue.
 
I'll add some more to this:
After running it for awhile I can say I'm really happy with it. The collar that I complained about earlier really is a non issue. I plumbed it in with the 3/4" union and it's rock solid. Another noteworthy mention is that while playing with the settings and tasks I seemingly borked the pump. I created a support ticket with Neptune and immediately realized it was user error, I had locked in the maximum as my minimum. Support e-mailed me back with this info within a few minutes of sending the ticket in. It's 8:35pm here EST. That's amazing support and service in any industry. The pump is as silent as the Jebao it replaced and is much stronger at the same wattage. I'm very happy with this purchase.
 
I ran mine in a bucket of water hooked up to my new manifold for over a week now and loved it. Easy to control and plenty of flow for all the outputs on my manifold and my main return. I'm waiting till I get back from a mini vacation to Vail before hooking it up to the tank since I'm doing a full sump swap out and I hate to make a big change like that before leaving for a trip
 
Got mine plumbed in the other day! Currently running it at 25% on my system. Gotta say this is the quietest pump I’ve never heard. Just glued a barb fitting into the 3/4 adaptor to silicone tubing which attached to the pvc manifold. Sorry @Terence I had to use the screen cover off of a Varios pump since the Cor doesn’t include one.

I've been wanting to upgrade my current two Eheim 1262 pumps on my 220. Each feeds a 3/4" sea swirl on the back of the tank. They're rated for about 630 gph at 65 watts each. My thinking is the Core 20 will add over 30% more flow with considerably less watts per gph. Plus I'd be able to clean up my plumbing a bit and control the pump with my Apex. While my Eheims are not very noisy, they do vibrate in the sump. I have sections of 3/4" Silicone tubing between the pumps and the 3/4" pvc return piping to accomidate this. It's definitely quieter that way. I'm hoping I can loose the silicone tubing and connect directly into a 1" pvc with the core pump. I guess my main question is will the vibration be as less as the noise is compared to comparable pumps?
 
I don't think this pump vibrates at all....mine is so quiet. I have it on my 220 with 1 1/4'' inch from the pump to a Tee then all 1'' plumbing the rest of the way to the tank.

I'd second that. I have mine hard plumbed with 1 ¼" plumbing the entire way. I do have a piece of rubber under the pipe where it rests on my stand - that's a leftover from my Fluval SP4. It was also totally silent, but it had just enough vibration that the stand acted like a sounding board and amplified it. I haven't tried removing the rubber with the COR20, so I don't know what effect it has, but as it is now, it's virtually silent. With the sump doors open, I can hear a very soft hum, and with the doors closed I can't hear it at all. At similar flows, it has the same sound characteristics as a Varios6.

Cor is running at 70% producing 575 gph and using 77 watts on my eb832 (74 id u beleive the tile)

I can not hear my pumps in my sump but every once in awhile the cor I guess vibrates the return piping and flow sensor and I get a weird high pitch sound but other then that I’m happy with it

I will say this tho it is pretty much the same pump as a vectra m1 inside and all the m1 actually uses less power at least that’s what my apex says (they are both running at 70% but the vectra feeds my manifold that’s why the flow is lower) so if Ecotech and apex could work together I would personally use the m1 but the cor intigration is well worth it until that happens

I am waiting for the next shipment of cor’s To buy another to replace my vectra as I love the vectras the intergration of the cor in my fusion is worth it to me but if the vectras ever play nice with Neptune I’ll have two cor 20s up for sale

Thanks for the info. I like the rubber pad idea. I believe the reason the Vectra is using less power is that it is moving less water. Regardless of the reason (back pressure in your case) I believe centrifugal pumps churning do not use the same amount of power as they do moving water. RPMs remaining the same of coarse.

Well if I close my manifold I get roughly the same gph thru both of them also more tubing for the vectra to go thru so I don’t know you could be right about the backpressure part whatever it is three watts I’m not worried about.
I will say this it is easier to clean the vectra even tho it is pretty much the same propeller in both getting the rubber o ring to stay put on the cor is a tough chore but I don’t want anyone to think I’m bashing the Cor as it does what it’s suposed to and has been reliable for me and I am going to buy a second one to replace my vectra when they are available as the interfration and ability to save a outlet on my eb 832 is worth it in my eyes that is truly where the cor destroys any other

When I compared my Varios6 and COR 20 they had very similar power usage at the same flows. It was a pretty rough comparison, though. I don’t have a true flow meter, so I simply adjusted them so they kept the level on my Beananimal overflow the same and measured the power at the wall with a kill-a-watt. One thing to watch out for is that the power displayed for the COR pump on the Apex dashboard is the power at the pump, not the total power which includes the power consumed by the pumps, the control unit and the DC power brick.

I have to wonder if many of these pumps don’t use the same internal motor block. The external housing and volute can still have a significant impact on efficiency and heat dissipation, and as I mentioned above, the controller unit plays into the total power consumption as well.

Does anyone know if anyone has done a power-flow comparison of these pumps using an actual flow meter? I’d be interested in seeing how much difference there is between the pumps.
