This good to know , because I just got a new frag of eagle eye zoas and I'm really hoping they do well:)

Everything I know from reading and what I have seen... Unless your water is toilet water... and that might be ok for zoa's and paly's lol you should be fine. I know they like dirtier conditions than other corals and lower light as well as flow from some of the others.. good beginner corals as they put it.. I just like them cause there are sooooo many different variations. Im as new as your are Emily, I have 4 frags and an Emerald crab about 7 snails and some hitchhiker starfish thats soooo small I dont know if Ill find him again before I know if he's safe or not but my lil ones look happy to me :)

It tends to happen less often as you learn more and have a more established tank.

My biggest trouble is finding the right light settings for my tank. I just invested in a new AI hydra fifty two and it is so confusing to me on how to set my lighting schedules and intensities, there are way to many options!

Yes, that can be a big issue. I don't really want something else that I have to tinker with so I use t5. I have not seen evidence that LED are more beneficial over t5 either.

I am under the impression that LED is easier on my utility bill, lol. I'm a single mom of 3 young children and this is my new found hobby that I am absolutely in love with but it is very expensive!!! But worth it, it gives me something to do along side being a mom.

Ok, they're more efficient where electrical consumption is concerned. And you don't have to do yearly bulb changes. To get to the $800 price of a high end LED fixture it will take me over 6 years. I don't even plan on my fixture to last that long, and would expect the same lifespan out of the LED. The electrical consumption in my area probably costs an extra $3 a month or so as well.

That probably would have been good to know before I sprang for this insanely expensive light, haha! oh well, I will figure it out as I go and I guess I won't be changing any bulbs any time soon, yay! Thanks pete, you seem like a great guy and very helpful. I need a guy like you as a neighbor, lol

From what I understand you have a great light. All the figuring out intensity and ramp up/ramp down stuff is just more than I would want to mess with.

I'll just keep playing with it till I get it right. I read a forum on here about it and I took a few notes, so we'll see how it goes:)

after 12 years you should not be afraid to buy expensive corals! your a pro by now:)

I can vouch that after 15 years, I still get moderate-nervousness-churn-in-my-stomach when I order coral or purchase fish locally. Its part of the thrill! You get a little used to it, but it never goes away 100% unless you have money to spare. And even then its saddening to see things die.
