Coral growth and placement questions

i have a 29 gallon reef tank that's been running for 3 years almost now. My reef is mainly made up of frags and a few larger colonies of coral. I also have 3 decent sized rocks that make up my reef. Now I have not been able to get my corals to grow very fast. Everything seems to be doing great but I can't seem to get any good growth out of my corals. I have a frag rack with a few corals on it that I need some help on where I should put them on my reef. A side note. I do water changes once a week and keep my salinity at 0.23.

What exactly are your parameters? If some of these aren't kept within limits then the corals would just kind of be in limbo so to say.

If u can give more details about parameters etc that would help. Also please research before buying livestock. Any tang needs to have a lot more swimming room than a 29g. Im sure more will chime in on that.

Salinity is 1.030. As for the other stuff. Nitrate and ammonia 0 ph was 8.2 if I'm missing anything please do let me know so I can get the proper things to test for them.

As for the comment about the tang. I'm not looking to put any more live rock in my tank and I have experience with keeping tangs in tanks of my size. I really would appreciate if no one would tell me what to do in regards to my tang.

I know you don't want to hear it, but this is a rather extreme case of too small a tank for a tang. This guy will outgrow that. I hope you have a 5' tank in your future.

The alge on that one part of my aquarium has to do with the light hitting it from the window. nitrate when I tested it said 0. And there shouldn't be any phosphates due to me using RO water for water changes.

Why is your salinity so high? 1.026 should be the max. You haven't provided any details on what tests have revealed for Alk, Ca, and Mag. Please provide those results.

Have anything to really churn he sand, like some hermits? I've got a side of my tank that gets light all day from the sun and my bunch of hermits that do a great job of keeping clean.

Its ur responsibility to maintain a proper environment for any livestock u intend to keep. As a hobby we are already under enough scrutiny. All youre doing is providing more ammunition. I dont care how much "experience" u have keeping tangs in a 29 gallon tank. It is NOT RIGHT!! You are one of the reasons are hobby as a whole doesnt sit well with some people. All that i asked is u please consider the needs before u purchase.

You'll get phosphates from food and other things, it doesn't just come from tap water. As mentioned above what is your Alk, Mag, and Ca? Contrary to popular belief sunlight alone doesn't make algae grow, excess nutrients is the true cause. You need to slowly lower your salinity down to 1.026, doing it too fast can be detrimental. That tang is adding a significant bioload to that small of a tank. Not too mention a 29 is way to small for a tang of any kind. As for placement I'd get your tank up to par before moving anything around. What other inhabitants do you have, what lighting, filtration? Do you have a sump or refugium? The more we know about your setup, the more we can help.

A lot of people aren't going to waste their time giving advice to someone who has clearly ignored advice in the past. Sorry, but it's frustrating from both angles.

1.023 is low for proper coral growth, 1.025, 1.026 is where you should try to keep it.

Human- I have a fuval LED light which is rated to grow corals. For filtration I have a hydro tech performance monitor which is a canister filter. I do have a back part of my aquarium that kind of acts like a sump. It has a filter pad bio balls in on chamber and the return pump in the other chamber. I also have a internal marine protein skimmer.

Wow that's a very ignorant statement to make and makes me depressed how little you seem to care about the tank size for your livestock. I don't care that you don't want to hear it cause I feel like I need to say something for the fish's sake. Imagine someone keeping you locked 4x4 closet for the rest of your life.
