easily spend $250+ on 1/2 frags pretty commonly and im not made of money
I would argue that last part. Lol ;-)

But honestly The simple fact is people charge what they can And people pay what they will. I agree that a beautiful reef is easily had And cheap enough if you buy the right stuff. I would also agree that if you can afford some of these prices like $6,000 for a mushroom you have entirely too much money. Lol

Saw a post on here with a bounce for sale for $7500. Needed money to fix hvac. How can you have a piece of coral worth $7500 bUT not have the money to fix your hvac....

IMO............... wait.... what?? Not Again! I'm sure the weekend is knocking on the door for a thread like this and we'll be in for a long conversation again.
Just got a Gem and Black Tang so we don't have a whole lot for sticks left this weekend.

I'll admit i started this thread purely based on my opinion that i believe coral prices are getting higher without true justification. I just really wanted to see how many others agreed with me or if i was on my lonesome lol.

Its just when i buy anything i want to know that im not overpaying, i take my time to research to find the true value and best deal. I dont make any exceptions for this hobby because it takes up so much time and money.

I get pricing on fish, POTO did a great write up yesterday on their gem tangs. Fish are easy to understand lol

For me if I had the cash to toss 6k on a coral n not blink then I'd feel better about myself if I spent 1k and helped others in need with the other 5k through church or food pantry ect. But we all have the right to our own opinions and to choose what we do with what what we have. People worry about things that don't matter when there's others we all pass daily with less and going without. So everyone has to find the balance that's best for them and their families when it comes to spending on hobbies. We have a right to think it's crazy but that doesn't give the right to ridicule someone who spends more. Most that have extra in reefing are glad to share and pass along a nice coral to those with less.

If an item sales it was obviously not over priced,...it is that simple! Unless charitable organizations get into selling frags people will price them for the most they can sell them for, people in general like to make as much profit as possible.

I think what you meant to say is "I think people are willing to spend a lot more on rare corals than I am thus driving the price up and leaving me a bit sore!"

I disagree. There's lots of vendors that sell the coral at a reasonable cost and not try to maximize profit. Not everyone is greedy and if the customers are providing them with a nice life they give gratitude by making things affordable. This mentality of trying to squeeze every penny possible out of the consumer is kinda disturbing.

We have sponsors who do sell frags for charity. Unique has supported cancer research through frags sold on ribbon plugs. Fx charity corals n Rocky mountain corals both also support charities through their sales. So as with everything doing homework and searching can find great corals at fair prices and find supporters to fit all reefers wants. Supporting local clubs and swaps is a great way to find great friends and deals also.

Exclusivity and rarity is expensive. Fact is that $6ooo bounce is/was a market anomaly and has no barring on the coral market in general. A 1970 Hemi Cuda Convertible sold for 3 million. Why? because alot of people with alot of money wanted it, but it had to price this high in order for only one person to own it. Again, exclusivity is expensive.

some people are just filthy rich , its something you just have to deal with . If you sold a leather frag and wanted to make money of it and you sold one for 60 why would you lower the price .?? Like people stated before its your responsibility to say wow that's just crazy and go on to the next one . for instance look at the auctions on here ...starting bid $5 , increments $1 .. first bid $5 next bid $79...2 minutes later . Some people don't care about money or have the brainpower needed to get a good deal . Its the nature of working with people , you just have to make the better decision and be patient , You can blame the people selling it , they are trying to make money!!
