Coral torch tips and tricks

I have found they either do real good or don't last long. Tank should have been up for a while and stable. My previous one after I moved, was only one head it seemed ok but a month later it lost all the flesh. My tank has now been up almost two years so I decided to get another one, it had five heads and now has eight in a month. It is in moderate to high flow at bottom of tank but still gets lots of light. I had one before I moved it was only 3 heads to start and ended up around 12 heads in 1.5 years. it was in very high flow and high light. it was damaged when I moved, entire container full of corals was dropped on the asphalt.

Like others have said, stable parameters as much as possible. Varying flow and flow patterns, low to medium, as long as it's not in the direct pathway of a powerhead. Keep it away from other corals, unless it is the same genus (and even then it's a case by case basis).

I have had a rainbow and purple tip torch next to each other, on the same rock for months now and they both seem to be doing fine. The rock is on the sand bed, 24+" from the light. They get indirect flow from a gyre pump nearby, ranging from low to medium. Target fed once or twice a week, then broadcast fed daily when I feed the rest of the tank inhabitants.

Thanks Bruce. Wow 3 more heads in only one month, that was fast. My display is 2.5 years old aprox. My QT is 1 year old. They seem very happy so far. Hope to have the opportunity to see them in my display after 2 or 3 weeks more.

What were your water parameters to get 3 new heads in a short time :)? Did you feed them?

Mine like med flow and med light. They can be next to other Euphyllia (other torches or frogspawns and hammers) but give them some distance from anything else, as they pack a punch.
