Hi,

A week or so into my first tank setup, a 120g tank. System is stable with a base of around 100lbs of Marco and 40lbs of live rock from my LFS.

On the live rock I just noticed this!

It is around 1/4" tall. I have not noticed it before (the live rock has been in for a week now) but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

What is it?

aptasia kill it now
Take either the rock out and burn it. dry the rock out and then freshwater dip then dry again. or aptasia x those things suck.

Looks like Aiptasia Anemone, pepermint shrimp will take care of them, they sometimes come in on rock, they are a pest

Wow, ok, I went down in the dark to see what was up. The (alleged) Aptasia is closed up. Just a little brownish dot. Explains why I never noticed it before.

But I did also see a large brown crab on one of the rocks. He headed back into a hole before I could get a photo. But it looked like a crab crab... Like an emerald crab but brown. So a mithrax crab?
It was about 2" across. Bigger than most of the pics I'm seeing online.

Is this guy ok or a problem?

Honestly I'm not great at crab I'd but it will def help.

As an update on the crab. He remains elusive when it comes to photography. I have seen enough of him moving around at night (we got a red led flashlight) to be fairly convinced that he is a mithrax crab. Whenever we do see him he is just munching on algae, so hopefully he's a good guy.

The original topic of the post (the possible polyp or possible anemone) is pretty much unchanged. Spends a fair amount of time closed up as a little bud. I'm keeping my eye on that one as well and will be back with more questions when it starts to look different:

did you increase lighting? Is it possible to get a top down pic? any color change? it appears to be less stretched and thicker than the first pic?
