coraline algae help growing, etc..

Cool. Can't starved either. Hard to find the balance.

Petco overcharged you, and I am not talking about a bad deal. I am talking literally made a mistake on prices. They have fixed prices set by their vendors and can not deviate from them. That rock should have cost far less. I have seen them at petco, they are overpriced, but not that overpriced. Talking 12-20 dollars max. Wrong sku was entered IMO. Or manager is breaking store policy and changing prices. The items are fixed price once they hit the store. Corals can not be raised in price if they grow out, baby fish can't be charged more for if they hit adulthood in store. Whatever sku an item ships at it must be sold at.

I have gotten cheaper snails this way, as well as fish. Never corals though, as all my local petco corals die in 3-4 months or less in their pathetic frag tank.

i also live in Hawaii if that makes any sense a LOT of cheap items are overpriced here but yea $60 for the rock that was ridiculous. i only bought it because the person helping me said it was like $20 -.-" but it's okay i bought real coraline algae it's shipping tomorrow and comming tuesday hopefully early because i have work in the afternoon it was fairly priced imo about $30 but shipping cost me an arm and a leg but i expected that for this hobby. only thing about this one is it's just small plastic plates with the algae ontop of it. hopefully it spreads in my tank that way i can help someone else here who is actually looking for coralline algae for free instead of going through what i did -.-" i hope it spread fast or spreads at all lol thats my biggest concern it not spreading and dying

yea thats why it's hard with feeding. before when i used to feed a lot of food went to waste now majority if not all of it is getting eaten i think this is because i feed once a day. it also depends what im feeding as well currently got 4 different foods some i feed more since it's already preportioned and i know my trigger and puffer will take out huge chunks of it.

by any chance does anyone know if you can grow coraline algae on real reef rock?

I wish it would stop growing. Lmbo

it grows on everything. :)

oh okay didn't know if whatever is on the real reef rock would stop it from growing or anything otherwise i would have replaced it with base rock

no sweat. Im surprised you dont have more coral and live rock places in Hi. Me I'd get arrested for scraping corraline of a rock on the beach.
In fact I plan on it if I get out there.
LR is just dead coral

can't keep corals here so most of the pet stores only sell fish and mostly fresh water because people here are not very fond of salt water tanks unless your rich then you see them in every rich persons home but not maintained by them either. im pretty sure it is legal to scrap coraline of the rocks here as long as they don't contain corals as it is legal to take live rock from the ocean with coraline algae just not corals and now sea cucumbers as well. the only reason i didn't do this is because most of the beaches i go to are heavily populated with people or warning signs and i know there really isn't any coraline algae their. i had a buyer on craigslist who sold me my tank tell me where he gets his live rock in the ocean from but i think they dive for that stuff not something you can just walk up and grab it. most of the rocks you see at the beaches i go too have nothing really on them as far as coraline goes just a bunch of slimey algae or limpids. easy to find hermit crabs and depending where you go brittle stars as well

i just got my coraline algae kit today i will post a pic in the morning looks like i got a lot of pinks , some purple, and some green but mostly pink

i had 3 questions i am unsure of still though. 1. i have one on the sand bed because i can't place it anywhere on the rocks water flow keeps knocking it over and was wondering will this one still spread? 2. do i need to scrap them to spread them someone earlier told me i don't but i been watching a lot of video's people say i do was unsure though i would assume not. 3. these cards are 2 sides will the side without the lighting be okay?

any suggestions on where i should place them as well those little branch things seem fine but the cars at keep falling down. i tried tying them up but i don't have a drill so it kind of makes it difficult. it's just a plastic card i think pvc and yes both sides are covered in coraline

okay thanks lighting wise i think it should be fine i have some coralife t5's they are not the best imo ontop of that they are encrusted with salt from before when i didn't top off so that should block our some light if needed. yea i was trying to not scrap it off to see if it will spread on it's own because many people seem to have that idea where scraping it off is the only way to spread it until i heard someone say you dont need to
