Coralline Algae- on Back glass

I leave it

I leave it, but it doesnt look very good until its covered which takes awhile.

I leave it. I also can't get to the entire back of my tank and the rock work would prevent me anyway. I scrap everywhere else though. The more you scrap, the more it seems to grow where you don't want it to.

Do most people keep it on back glass or scrape it off?
It's a living part of the reef. Why would anyone scrape it off the back or the side glass? OCD maybe. Let it grow, many try to get it to grow.

for me I don't like the look, plus it robs my corals the basic building blocks to grow... which means I have to add more just to keep corals happy. meh, I'll scrape it off the glass.

I’m presently scraping it off where I can reach. The hope for me is my corals will grow and the rock coraline will cover the rock better. Once my corals are in a good place I’ll likely let the coraline fill in my bare bottom and back wall.

I left mine for a while but then scraped the entire back wall. It turned my tank water a light pink for a few hours. I try and do it monthly now, I like the clean back look

My back is painted blue. It seems the coraline is only growing on the black overflow box and wave makers. Is it because it only likes the black places?

I like clean glass so I scrape it off haha

Coraline algae will grow just about anywhere it wants. I scrape it off the front and sides of my tank all the time. :)

Your light must be hitting those spots more than the other sides of your tank. Better flow also plays a role.

Get an urchin or two and let them decide. I’ve got a baseball sized one and he keeps off the front back and sides pretty well so I don’t have to worry about it all. There are a few spots on the back but that’s it. Downside is rips most of it off the rocks too, so if you want coralline covered rocks it’s not a good route to go.

To me, I think a clean back glass adds depth to the tank. But that's me and it's your algae.

Sea urchins also eat coralline algae but they are also little bulldozers in a reef tank, knocking things over. Limpets also eat coralline algae and are much smaller. I always liked the several limpets I had.
