In my expierence i used 11 lbs of mature live rock and and the rest dry rock. The dry rock turned brown then green not like hair algae green but a green you can't rub off. then purple specs started everywhere and are continuing to cover the green. At one point I wondered the stages and found out from mr saltwater when I was wondering why I had green rocks. My base rock is still not completely covered and it's been about 7months n if I had to guess it would prolly be a year when their fully covered. My params have been pretty much perfect since the cycle thanks to my doser. Only things that happen fast in this hobby are bad things lol. Be patient.

Please don't hijack the thread (any more than already done). Please? I know the OP started it and should have started a new thread, but the tangent has nothing to do with the original question.

Regards
Michael

try introducing in a breeder box in the tank leave the fish in for a few days so your older fish can see it then take it out after they are use to the new fish
I wish I could do 1 fish every 3 months... I have a sailfin and yellow belly hippo that chase around and stress out and untimely kill anything I try to add. My next option is to add 3 fish at once so they can't pick on one continuously. My tank is 300g so I don't think adding 3 fish will change it too much. A smaller tank I'm sure wouldn't be a great idea. Idk I'm out of options... :/

if you want your tank purpled up and your impatient like me buy the brand life rock its got fake coraline
I need help on the best way to grow coralline algae. I have tried everything, like the purpleup supplement or taking a tooth brush and scraping the algae off the live rock but nothing will work . it wont stick

I tried that with a clown tang. I had him in a breeder box for like a week. Before I let him out I feed the tank to get the other fish busy. The clown lasted about a day.... :/

My 2 cents is flow lots of flow from power heads and keep your calcium around 480 and use salifert test kits to make sure your test results are right because they are one of the best test kits on the market and patience.

I have about a 30g refugium tank plumbed into my system. I guess I can try to catch the sailfin and put him in there for awhile when I decide to add some more fish...

Mine finally started after I changed my lights. I use 250w mh now
