We always liked coralline algae in the tank.

How did you get it to grow? Do you make a change, and if so, what? What kind of lights do you have?

Physiological and Photomorphogenic Effects of Light on Marine Macrophytes
1.2 Photosynthesis Under Limiting Light Conditions
quote "it is not yet clear how crustose red algae (coralline) can grow down to 274-m water depth where the average incident photon flux density (light) for 12 h day 1 does not exceed 0.02 mmol m 2 s 1 (Raven and Geider 2003).

Little light is needed for coralline. I have plenty on rocks, & behind rocks where no direct light is involved.

Consistently maintained cal & alk is not necessary either, just as long as they are at least near the minimum levels recommended for a reef tank.

Low NO3 helps, but it is low levels of PO4 that I found to be the key factor for coralline taking off.

Lousy softy/LPS lighting. And that may help it grow.
Especially the red (lol, cyano red) coralline. The red only grows on the undersides of rocks out on the open.

SPS lighting seems to inhibit coralline?

I'm going to disagree, respectfully of course, only because in my experience I didnt get coralline algae growth until after I amped up the par in my tank. I easily have 250 to 400 par all over my tank and see coralline growth everywhere :)

Looks like I’m in the minority. I hate it anywhere. I’m about to buy a second urchin.

Triton Core7 supply is way too limited to spend it on Coralline.

When my tank hit its one year birthday and I added T5 lighting to the Kessil AP700, the coralline growth exploded. Now I have to vinigar soak equipment every 6 weeks.

exact same thing here. That and the implementation of my brs 2 part dosing.

There are several different strains of it. Some can tolerate higher par and then there is others that cant stand much of any par. I have some that grows on the rock in my sump that's mostly dark most of the time.

Coralline plays an important role on the reef
