Corals dying like clockwork

i have no idea whas your sps problem is, but i can share my experience with sps, for first year and half the only growth i had was green mushrooms and aiptesia, buy secont year i only had my montipora plates to grow at crazy rate. (4 years into my reef tank. my monty is 30'' wide now) just with in last year my acro's started to grow well. prior to this i had many frags of sps that would ether stay as frags or die, untill that 3 year mark.

no dosing of "magic in a bottle", just time and calcium reactor to keep my alk stable

On the FLO tile or for a single WAV?

If it's for the whole FLO tile, then ding ding ding we have a winner.

SPS does best with a FLO between 6 and 8 or 60x - 120x turnover.
That's on the tile however my girlfriend's brother has growing SPS in a fluval 13 gallon with functionally no flow at all. Now granted my flow could be more but to have STN/RTN? I don't know if flow alone could cause that could it?

Man that's humbling for sure. I really don't understand the difference in tanks. Like I know people that started SPS 3 months after a tank start and it thrived. Such a pain in the butt. Maybe I just have the worst luck.

Definitely. 250 is fine if not preferable for some sps
I am glad to hear this. But also not glad because it sounds like this problem is still an unsolvable mystery. It's like I'm at the point of contracting a scientist to figure this out lol. That's my last option. The other problem is I'm not rich and could never afford that lol

is there a coral that actually thrives in your tank right now, like its growing lps, softies?

at the moment. No. Not a single one. Haven't had any softies yet. Probably going to be the next thing I try.

I’m just curious as I didn’t see it, and can’t see to look at pictures, but 12” is pretty shallow…..I didn’t hear about rock. Wether in the sump or display.
Edit, is this a frag system?

if all above suggestions fails, maybe lps for a year or so? untill you actully see growth, then try easy sps, i started with plating monti, and birds nest

I agree that this is quite low and that more pumps are probably needed. Not sure if that’s your problem though. I’m running six wavs in a 160 and my flo level varies from 6.8 to 7.6 throughout the day. A lot of sps love flow, especially with more light and nutrients.

They both mean the same thing. Sudden or Rapid tissue necrosis.
STN is slow tissue necrosis not sudden.

As for the original question I can’t say but IME the older the system the easier it is to grow corals. I couldn’t hardly keep corals alive for my first year or so. If willing to try any kind of “magic elixir”, my SPS corals perked up when I started using Acropower in my tank.

Yes giant frag system is my main tank. I have live rock in sump

Yeah I tried a birds nest that died. LPS is dying too. At least the Duncan is, it doesn't look very happy

So I should clarify I didn't have that tile set so I JUST set the numbers up on that and it's only giving me 4.4 because of the cycle on the setting it's in I'll give it a day or so to average it out. Assuming that's how it works
