Corals fighting

Different corals have different potency of their defense mechanisms. The brain may not be strong enough to kill the palys, just irritate them. During the day the brain doesn't fight so the palys open back up.

I let some of my corals compete for space and some I separate depending on how strong they are.
Well im going with you and spspirate, gonna let them be just like if they were in mother nature..btw there only polyps :)

There always is a winner and a loser when it comes to different species coming in contact. One will kill the other eventually. Sometimes in a closed system there may be other corals or anemones that end up being causalities if one of the corals reverts to Allelopathy. Allelopathy I think is one of the reasons we see unexplained deaths sometimes in reef aquariums or crashes. Corals can kill other corals just by touching them or regular tentacles sting. Some corals will just over grow a neighbor or simply shade it. Some will release mesenterial filaments in which they digest their neighbors.

IDK what to do. i wouldnt mind moving the brain so the zoas can spread more on the rock, but if i do move brain and just place it on sandbed, will it be ok and dont it need to have a rock to be able to grow?

If you cant move them you can put a barrier up or just let nature take its coarse.. It may only kill the ones it can get at or even take years before it get big enough to kill them all. The zoas may spread fast enough to out run the other coral. Who knows the zoas could win.. In my coral biology class we had to document two corals fighting by moving two corals together and right up a report. What bothers me though is Allelopathy, I have some sever Allelopathy going on in my tank at the moment, I have corals that are almost a foot from any another coral fighting corals that are not there. I just can not figure what coral is causing the issue. Allelopathy can build up in a closed system and even though a coral is not right next to the other the other corals in the tank can be affected.

I understand what your talking bout,

i dont think it would be a problem moving it but just not sure where to move it to..
