Covid-19 infects the lungs, fish dont have lungs. I think it will be okay.

Well I have always wondered about transferring a cold to my fishlike when I have a cold or more recently the flu, I don’t stick my hands in the water. I know it’s probably no chance of transferring to fish but ya never know.

I think this most similar to the bat coronavirus. The outbreak took off in the fish market, but there are patients that had the virus prior to that outbreak.

Now the human packing the bag, and then you getting it 24 hours later, maybe we need to worry, maybe not. I have no clue how long covid-19 survives on a surface. Your fish most likely are not in danger. I don’t think we know if we are though.

Zoonotic diseases are pretty uncommon for starters but even then the chances that a disease could be versatile enough to infect such vastly different organisms separated by millions of years of evolution seems like a bit of a stretch.

Coronaviruses like cov-19 or RSV and the cold are unable to survive for long periods in moisture rich environments. RSV for example can survive on a door for hours only minutes in a tissue.

There are some viruses like cold sores that can spread in water. Most Herpesviruses are fatal to fish. The most commonly seen is amongst koi breeding facilities. Culling once detected is usually the only recourse. As far as I know human herpesvirus is only transmittable to primates. Its the leading cause of death of captive pygmy marmosets, in which it is 100% fatal too.

Make sure you don’t breath as well as fish digesting they release a toxic fume through the water. Also they burp or fart, so you might want to treat the tank with 10m of vodka per 1g of tank volume and run a 5 micron filter sock for at 14 days.
