I find it laughable that people would complain about service cost on the Trident, and they would go out and spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on corals and not blink an eye. When this device will be protecting their investment on a daily basis.

First of all not everyone spends thousands on coral and doesn't blink an eye. Matter of fact those that spend money on higher end corals is a pretty small part of the hobby.

I think details, maintenance, costs and expectations of the user have been communicated very well. However your going to have those who pay no attention to information and complain about the end result. i.e people still complaining that it does Ca, Alk amd Mg. Like really!!? They’ve said many time its necessary for the way this particular machine works to test all 3. Ignorant people will complain when they don’t understand something.

Now, where can i get one since BRS was out before 2:01 cst. I want one asap, I’m the “gotta have it now” guy. Any tips on shops that haven't posted it yet that will etc?

Maintenance should be expected with a pump, but do you think it was communicated well?

I noticed some gripes about that and Most will realize dosing pumps need maintenance, heads and tubing will ware and breakdown. For me it would be the trouble of boxing up and shipping then reinstalling ect. Train your Dealers to Service @ LFS then list them as certified.

So all that snarky talk about having to replace PH probes in the competition, etc, and oh hey by the way you require some major servicing every year and a bit, on top of the ongoing reagent cost. Gee I wonder why that little tidbit was saved for the last moment before retail release.

Really puts a damper on things - I've got 6 months, maybe more, before the new system is up to decide plus there will be some real world feedback by then. I'll decide then.

I’m a diy kinda guy so I’m doing the less than $100 approach that Terrence mentioned but for those that aren’t into that, this is a good idea. Any decent lfs should be able to service it for you and possibly save you some money.

I "hang out" in a lot of threads. Not just ones that have to do with Neptune and you Terence. It's a fun forum to discuss the hobby that I love and the equipment we depend on.

I'm not being negative. Maybe if you're the marketing manager for Neptune I seem negative? I just find it interesting the kh director has been out for almost a year and a half and BRS waited until trident was ready to finally start selling it. I don't think that's a coincidence? Not that big of a deal, as I know BRS is sponsored by companies like yours and so they promote those products more, as they should.

I would have bought an Apex, possibly even a Trident, but I don't care for the way your company goes about buisness. I'm not going to list all those reasons here, as I'm not trying to be negative. I'm excited for those who have been waiting for the Trident! They've been waiting for a long time!

Oh and yeah I wouldn't expect the kh director to "fly off" BRS shelves since it's been out since December of 2017. Nor do I care if anyone buys it. I just think BRS should offer equipment from good companies that are proven, not just the ones that "sponsor" and "buddy up to" them.

You get your car for thousands of dollars..would you buy a punctured tire for 5$?
What's laughable is that you think coral should be secondary in this hobby...

I think you are reading too much into BRS not selling the Director until recently. GHL has limited when and what they could sell as much, if not more, than BRS has been unwilling to carry the products. There are a lot of legal agreements that may need to be put in place and, until recently, GHL has not made it a priority to get away from the GHL store when it comes to distribution. There are also financial impacts that come in to play with these arrangements and it may not have been in GHL's best interest to have the KH Director released to retailers until now.

I think you are reading too much into BRS not selling the Director until recently. Those are fair statements. I'm not sure what all contracts, non-competes, etc... that BRS has with different companies. I do know I spoke with someone at BRS directly several months ago when I was looking to buy a kh director and was told they like to test extensively in house all equipment before they sell it. At the time I was told that, they had been testing the kh director for several months and it has performed up to their expectations. He told me it would be released shortly. I guess 3 months is shortly and nitpicking a bit? I just know if I wouldn't have asked BRS directly, I wouldn't even know they were testing it.

I also know that companies like Vertex and Neptune that "sponsor" BRS have no such waiting period of testing in house. When those companies say it's good to go, BRS lists it. Trust me, I'd rather they apply the same rules to everyone as I wouldn't have had to deal with the Vertex Cerebra for the past several years sitting in a box in my basement.

If you don't want to test 4/2/2 times a day, fine, think of it as testing once per day but your reagent costs are still $22.50 a month. Or you can test 4 times that much for the same cost.

How does it cost the same if it is only tested once per day? While it's great to test 200X per day, an end user should ultimately make the decision when and how many times THEIR tank is tested.

I certainly dont leave work to run home and test 4 times a day, nor would I care to test it that often. If I can choose to test once per day or even less frequently to save on chemicals I should be allowed to do so.

Imagine if your car wipers sprayed fluid and came on 4 times a day...you get my point.

They said there will also be a DIY maintenance kit for under $100.

My guess is that you dont want an answer to your final question - since its been answered multiple times. That said - this has been touted as 'a solution to dosing alk and ca'. If it has to be sent away to be maintained - thats a problem. If it has to be sent away and then recalibrated for days - weeks thats a huge problem. I'm actually surprised that you haven't read the posts written asking these questions - but now pretend that anyone asking a question is some kind of a fool. By the way the fact that the VP of marketing didnt have the information is not anyone here's problem - its Neptune's problem. They should IMHO have that information. You seem to agree with this - then back pedal. When you respond to a comment saying 'you dont like Neptune' but there are multiple people asking the same question - it might make sense to use the 'quote feature' on the forum so that people know to whom you're speaking - I own a ton of Neptune products - and have complimented them multiple times - I have respectfully asked and gotten excellent answers from @Terence many times. This time IMHO they have royally dropped the ball. No one forced them to release the product until they knew all of the information. My guess (and its a guess) - is that since the video released on the maintenance requirement - they felt the need to rush it - but its a total guess.

For the record, I wasn't speaking to you about insulting others, or putting Neptune down. I have Neptune products and I don't think they walk on water, either. There are a very small amount of people that I always see in Neptune threads, that hate Neptune products. My only reason for saying what I said is why do you look at Neptune pages if you hate them so much, if not to troll. I'm not quoting them, because they know who they are.

As for not wanting an answer to my final question? It has been answered, true, by people complaining there is maintenance needed. And that was the point of my post. Why are people so upset by maintenance being needed? It is not unrealistic for maintenance to be needed. And Neptune seems to be offering multiple ways of doing it (DIY, Mail In, and they mentioned working on a replace before you mail in type system --that resolves the 'downtime' of having to have maintenance, if that comes to play). And, yes, I absolutely agree that Neptune should know the information about maintenance, now that the system is out. I didn't backpedal from that part. I'm definitely a little baffled they don't at least know exact pricing of replacement parts for maintenance.

By the way - the 'fanboys' that want to just be allowed to 'further the hobby' as has been said recently need to realize - that marketing research for a product it not always positive - the feedback that Neptune is receiving tonight from several hopefully will help them better market their products. Those of you 'fanboys' - your term not mine that seem to feel that people are insulting 'your product' need to realize that if its going to become everyone's product that all concerns that can be should be addressed - whether it fits into your cheerleading or not. Again I'm not using cheerleading as a pejorative term - just that someone said let 'fanboys be fanboys' - basically everyone else should stop commenting - IMHO - patently ridiculous

I do apologize for my misuse of the word fanboys. Thanks for clarifying the definition for me. Fans would have been a better term for me to use. (although there are definitely fanboys here too hahah). As for fanboys being fanboys and not let other people comment, if that's referring to me, that is definitely not what I meant either. Discourse is good and needed, and would hopefully get across to Neptune that there is some concern (which there definitely is some). But the people who post just about how terrible Neptune is and how they are so shady and how their products suck? If you don't have anything constructive to contribute, then those are the people I wish would not comment. Questions or concerns about the product? Please comment away (imo)
