Personally I wouldn't be concerned about FedEx abusing the package. It's not the FedEx doesn't abuse packages, they certainly do, but so do the airlines.
I'd also think that you'd want to do this sooner than later. The ideal conditions to ship livestock are in the late spring and early Fall when the temperatures aren't too extreme and there's little risk of a package of fish baking in 100 deg F temperatures waiting to get on the plane or in a truck.
