i found a couple creeters and hitchhikers in my tank these past few weeks and I'm starting to wonder if these are a good sign that my 2 month old tank has cycled and these things are starting to show themselves. I had damsels in the cycle process but I've gotten them out of my tank now and I had 2 clowns that only lasted 2 days, not sure if brook or marine velve killed them. But now my tank has been FISHLESS for 3 weeks I only added 2 small GSP frags a week ago and 1 torch coral last night. But I had never noticed any of these creeters before up until a week ago. So far I've found clear flatworms I believe, clear regular looking worms, worms creeping in between the sand bed and glass, a tiny little snell with pointy shell, small snowflake looking clear stars on the glass and this morning 2 astern is stars. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I added one pic of today's star and I'll add I found it on my GSP.
Parameters as of Sunday were
Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
Ph 8.4
Salinity 1.025
Temp 79-81

Oof. Post pics of the bugs. Second hand rock can be ugly.
We like bugs. But.
Sorry about the losses. That's a tough way to start a tank.
List the symptoms the fish had and we'll get a doctor in the house.

75% is all dry rock the rest were somewhat cured live rock coral branches and a tinie bit of live rock rubble that's in my sump in a refugium meant small aquarium.

The clowns looked to have marine velvet. One of my LFS thinks it was Brook but I believe not because brook tends to loosen the scales and you can eventually see open wounds. The store where I purchased them are going to replace them, but I'm nervous about taking fish from them again, not alone adding any life stock to my tank. I heard from a different LFSthat there was a bad batch of clowns from a local distributor and that it wasn't the LFS fault. It actually happened to them as well around the same time. I have no good pics as the blue led was running but I'll post anyway

Well you rock were more than a little cured I'd say.
The concern with the amount of life in the rock is it may have brought a parasite in with it.
I hope that's not the case.
Your parameters seem fine. What kind of water are you using for mixing. RODI I hope.
@Wiz @Lionfish Lair a couple I'd please.
Looks like some flat worms on the glass a nudibranch and the sand worms I know are good.

I use RO water from LFS and I used LFS premixed saltwater for w/c. I do plan on buying my own RO unit but I'm waiting for reefapalooza in spring.
The majority of the Rock is dry rock I should've said. Hence why I'm worried about adding fish in. I know I have a young tsnk and with a lot of dry rock to begin with. So far I have 2small GSP frags and a pretty torch coral.

Ok the tiny clear snowflakes are no trouble. That long white worm is a bit funky. Can you get closer? In order to I'd it has to be clear and large enough to see the critter. Most are no worry though. I wouldn't freak unless there is reason. Bugs are usually good. I would let that nitrate drop a bit more before adding more stuff. Looks good though. Sry bout the clowns:-(

Never seen that one before. Time to research. Ill get back to ya
yea, thats a good one!
did you notice on the other side if it had Rabbit ears or texture?

Ok cool
Thanks
You guys have been great!! What can you guys tell Me as far as the corals that are in there now? As I have a young tank and no fish. What's the care I should give them? I have no reactors at the moment. And also, saying my nitrates go to 10 ppm , what fish and how much would you start off with?

Your corals should be fine at your current parameters , as long as you don't have a large ammonia spike so keep an eye on that. As for fish, I would let your tank go fallow for 76 days to make sure it is free of any parasites.
Try getting an inexpensive QT tank and treat them before introducing to your tank from now on.

well the corals will be fine.
heres the deal.
SO not knowing what the fish had or died from is the problem.
Hotly debated
If ick brook or velvet were introduced into the system. Its still in there. Whether introduced by the fish or over funky rock is hard to say.
Thers a couple theories in great debate.
The clowns because of not the best water quality had ick (like maybe all do?) and the water quality was the stressor that triggered it, or water quality compromised thier system and the ick(or disease) in tank took advantage of the opportunity. Ick management or prevention. google or search here on the topic.
If you have better pics or can research what you saw that will ultimately help you moving forward.

I am definitely not qualified to give you advice on the subject. I am a student, and this topic is my most researched currently.
let us ask a sage.
@Diesel can you give a hand sir?

Ok
Thank you for the advice. I know is not ich for sure. Either brook or marine velvet has to be the one. Parameters were perfect at the time. Nitrate was at 2.5 as the LFS that provided the fish would check samples from my water every weekend.

Ugh, if a decease is detected on the fish and no fish is present in the tank than let it go fallow for two months.
Raising temperature can help speed up the process for ick but not sure on the rest.
What do we say [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG]

Alright.. so what we do in this situation is assume the fish had ick and go fallow for 76 days. At this point there is such a small chance that any parasites have survived without a fish host, so your safe to add fish again. I would caution you to start a QT so you dont risk introducing parasites back into your newly parasite-free tank.

My personal opinion is the clowns had velvet or brook. It's hard to tell from your pictures, but I'm thinking velvet. With brook it looks like the skin is peeling off (kinda) and your pics look like a bunch of white dots.

As far as the critters. I believe your snowflakes are probably a type of hydroid which come and go and are not generally an issue in my opinion. They could also be a type of jelly fish. But again no issue. The worm is a bit harder. I've not found an exact match yet. Best guess so far is maybe a ribbon worm. Although I'm nog very sure of that.
