Which one would you guys prefer ?

I used really fine sand and after 3 days the water was still cloudy. I dumped it all, started over and used coarser sand and was happy. Most do not reccomend using crushed coral due to its ability to trap ditreus. Make sure whatever you use is 100% aragonite.

I use aragonite because I use a shallow sand bed and vacuum it often. Even when I'm not doing a water change, at least once a week I vacuum it into a filter sock in my sump. It's hard to vacuum sand and I'd only advise it if you're going dsb.

If you are doing a substrate, definitely aragonite.
I used to have a shallow aragonite bed and siphoned it weekly
But I must put in my .02 and say. BB = best
Detritus removal is very easy.
Once you get some coralline growth on the BB it looks good IMHO, only negative is if you have fish that need sand you will have to do a container with sand somewhere.

Never listen to your LFS, look online before you do stuff if you can. I've found most lfs employees to have a false knowledge of the hobby.

It is quite an ordeal to change out your substrate. Put in what you want now and avoid a major headache.

I also used the arag alive fiji pink sand. It looks nice and it doesnt cloud up the tank.

The fiji pink sure does look nice. If you use cc, make sure to have some cc that can really break up the large stuff into smaller stuff.

I would do it in small amounts at a time. It would be easier and safer.
Take out small amounts over the course of several weeks than add all the sand at once. You don't necessarily need the sand for beneficial bacteria so I would not worry about bringing it to Bare bottom before you add the sand. The only issue would be if you have any fish or inverts that live in the sand. Than just put sand in a tubaware container.

A few months back, I tried to change out my sand bed. I used a siphon, and did it in sections. I would not do it again. It sent my tank in to a cycle and o lost corals. Good luck

Beforehand did you regularly siphon your sand? Was it a SSB or DSB?

I did. 2 Inches crushed coral 3 inches sand on top of that. Putting in the crushed coral was a nightmare but was fine after that.
