Does anyone here have the Current USA Orbit Marine LED light? Im wondering if it would be a good light for soft corals, and if it is dependable or not.

I have one. I bought it for my 29 biocube. They are pretty neat. They might be good enough for some lowlight softies. I upgraded to a rapidled retro kit and now use my orbits on a 10 gal. tank. I would say they are fairly reliable never had a problem yet, but I never recommend them for coral because they are very weak.

Thanks Saltyphish. I would rather have metal halides but was told that I would have to get a chiller since they get too hot. Even though I have fans to keep them somewhat cool. I'm trying to get good shimmer and good enough light for softies. The orbit light is a reasonable price for what is offered.

I have the 24" -36" fixture and I bought it in summer and I think it said it was 96watts. Then when I check it out again this month I saw it's only 23 watts! So not enough gladly I have my 4 bulb t5 ho fixture. I wouldn't recommend this light unless you only plan to keep mushrooms and xenias !

Believe it or not I have some SPS frags growing under the light. Thought they would due for sure..but going string for a few months...also have chalice, elegance, hammer, frogspawn, leathers, gsp, Xenia's, Ricordea sh rooms.

What if I added two lights instead of only having one? Wouldn't that be enough total wattage and light to support the tank? I am not going to have hard corals. Just thinkin.

Here is my 80G shallow (basically two 24" squares @ 14" deeep. The light is right on top of the tank which makes it about 3 inches above water. On the right side I have the 24" version of the light. And the left side I have two 18" versions. The SPS frags and basically 6-8 inches below the light right under center. The light does not cover front to back fully - but the left side with two of them cover nicely. I had the 18" on on a 29G Cardiff bullet tank and it was doing ok.

) BTW the clam in the pic dies 3 days later after I switched from T5 light to this. I knew it was not going to be enough light and stupidly hoped it would be ok. I should have gave/traded the Clam with a local hobbyist.

Thanks g6gang for the info. The unit looks like it puts out enough light. I'm thinking if I use an orbit 48" unit along with my current 48" unit, it will be plenty. Again, not going to have hard corals, just soft. :xd:

Heres a snap of my 20g tank. Its peninsula style tank with a 24-36" Marine Orbit unit. I don't have much to complain about, but it definitely seems to be a lower output light as I have seen my corals lose color over the past six months. Mainly the SPS corals have not held their vibrance, which I will attribute to the lighting since they still seem to grow, just very slowly. My Acan is usually very puffy, which looks awesome, but I feed it regularly. Zoas, mushrooms, Favia all seem to be doing alright. Things certainly don't have the solid colors and seem to be faded a bit. I did receive some corals (the favia and a couple chalices) that were very bleached when I got them, so this might have been a good light to help revive them, but I am looking to upgrade to a Hydra26 soon, as well as build a 60 cube to move things into. I run the white light at about 60% and have been for about a month, things haven't really changed, but prior to this I ran both channels at 100%. Of course I slowly dropped the lighting from 100 to 60.

I have a 24"-36" over a 20g long
it is for a couple breeding pairs of clowns so the only coral i have is xiena (for nutrient export) and it grows fast under this light. but I honestly dont think the light is strong enough for any tank deeper than 14"

We have this light for our regular size 29g. We have Softies and LPS that are doing well with this light. Its features are great.

I have the 48" model on my 75 gallon with a huge frogspawn, brain coral, and gsp and everything does great. I really like this light. I have blue channel at 95% and whites at 35%.

The box says for SPS corals you will need a supplemental light or more than one unit. Have any of you had a problem with the timer? I got mine from Amazon two nights ago and the light ran for about ten minutes then the timer died. Now the timer won't even light up. Still waiting to hear back from the company about a replacement timer.

Here us my 75g under the current marine orbit that I had mentioned in earlier post.
