Cyano algae and flow

Thanks, I am looking at picking up a cheap microscope. Will come in handy and I’m sure the kids will like it.

Do most LFS have phytoplankton and copepods or is this something I need to order from like algaebarn?

Thanks, reeflab. Fingers crossed!
Algae barn is great. A little pricey. My lfs has it sporadically but I trust algae barn much more as far as not introducing some kind of pathogen or pest to my tank

100% diatoms. Will go away in Their own and perfectly normal.

Whoever is saying that is Dino’s is just plain wrong.

Been running the uv sterilizer since last night. Increased the blues and brought down the whites. Just barely have had any brown forming on sand today.

Without a microscope, this comment is just plain wrong. Seeing is that this tank is or could be in a low nutrient environment with coral added, there is potential for dinos. Considering it's a new tank and it being possible that new equipment was added, it could also be diatoms. But to definitively say its not dinos, is the wrong approach.

I think the precautionary measure that should be taken is to A, get a phosphate measuring test kit. B, invest in a UV sterilizer(it doesn't have to be used, it's just for that just in case moment). and C, keep nitrates and phosphates on hand for manual dosing if nutrients continue to bottom out. It's really that simple. If it's diatoms, make sure regular water changes are performed and clean up crew readily consuming the brown algae.

I appreciate all the input. Still have a bit of brown/red forming on the sand. Nothing like before prior to running the uv sterilizer.

Ordering a microscope cause it sounds like a good idea to have one in the hobby. Also ordering some more of a full range of test kits. Will post back when I have some more info.

Last week it has really cleared up. Been running a uv sterilizer. Rocks have turned this green color. Is this nuisance algae or the start to coralline algae? Looks really green under this white light. New rock I just added in the back is still white.
