FIRST PICS, WON'T SEE THEM ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE WEB UNTIL NEXT WEEK......PICKED THIS UP EARLIER TODAY, ORA'S OREGON TORT. I THINK IT WILL HIT THE STREETS MONDAY OR TUESDAY. NICE PIECES. THEY ARE ABOUT 2 INCHES AND THINK WILL RETAIL FOR ABOUT $59.00. TELL YOUR FRIENDS YOU SAW IT ON CLUB ZOA... PICS UNDER 150HQI 14K NO ACTINICS..

looks good.....but only 150w!!?? you need to blast that thing with light. mine is like 4 inches under the surface of the water directly under a 250w radium ran on an HQI ballast.....and i still wish i had more light to give it.

Hate to say it but fairly common here to us ive had oregon tort frags up for awhile ive had my colony since 2002 but it is a great piece.

I'm confused (shocker I know)

but I thought the original oregon tort was from Upscales so what's the point of having an ORA Oregon tort? Is the lineage back to upscales? thanks

I was going to ask the same question. I have the upscales oregon tort. If the ora one is different I'll be getting one but I don't want to buy the same coral if there the same.

they are the same, ora does just as tyree, they find a nice coral and they get a piece to grow themselves.

But why would they name it oregon? The oregon tort was an oregon tort before it was an ora oregon tort. That's like saying there will be an ora cali tort, ora myagi tort, etc. I must be missing something in the semantics of this.

ORA can sell corals by their name alone. They aquaculture some of the healthiest corals out there and some people will be drawn to the ORA name over others. They grow several corals that can be purchased elsewhere (ie. Seriatopora guttatus, S. histrix, tri-color valida, chip's acro, etc.).

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, (WHICH ISN'T MUCH...LOL) ORA WILL NOT PROPAGATE ANY CORAL UNLESS THEY CAN OBTAIN A LARGE NUMBER OF MOTHER COLONIES OF THE SAME SPECIES. I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE EVER GROWN ANY OF THEIR CORAL STOCK FROM ONE OR TWO PIECES, IT IS JUST TO MONETARILY AND TIME CONSUMING. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, THEY HAVE BEEN CULTIVATING THEIR OREGON TORT FROM SEVERAL LARGE COLONIES SINCE 2004.

this is the actual oregon tort, its only labeled as an ora oregon tort because it was cultured FROM ora
its not a wild colony they got from somewhere, its the original oregon tort and you can pretty much see that from reef-lovers pics
