We just got back from a cruise to Cozumel, Belize and Roatan. We went snorkeling on the barrier reef in Belize and swam with sharks and stingrays. I found this chunk of live rock with a huge long spine urchin in it. I went in for a closer look and this damsel came out and decided I was too close to his home so of course I went in for a closer look. :D More pics coming as I get them edited but I had to get this video uploaded first.

If anyone has an ID for the damsel let me know!

HAHA! So cool man!!

New tank coming soon? :p

Looks like a beaugregory. Beautiful fish but mean little sob's!! I made the mistake of catching one about 1/2 inch long and adding it to my tank. He ended up tormenting my fish so much I ended up losing some and finally had to pull all my rocks out to catch him!!

A similar experience happened to me when I tried to get a closer look at a Sergeant Major's nest, Carribean/Atlantic damsels are mean little buggers!

If you zoom in you can see the little booger chasing the wrasse!!

Fabulous. Makes me very excited to get to Kauai in May! I loved snorkeling there when I went years ago. Cannot wait to share with the kids this time. We are going to snuba and snorkel, not dive. Cool pics. I will have our gopro with us. I will try to remember to post. Thanks for sharing.

How big is that tank and what are the params? Lol doing a similar cruise in March! NCL out of Miami. Hopefully doing some quality snorkeling as well.

The reef there was in pretty bad shape. You can see all the bleaching of the sps. There were many spots where larger dead sps had smaller healthy mini colonies underneath so hopefully it’s recovering. The gorgs and fans seemed very healthy and the LPS showed some signs of damage but were alive.

We also got to hand feed tarpon from the boat. We were holding shad and the tarpon would jump out and grab it from our hands. I have a video but there was a lot of expletives I need to edit out. It was startling to have a 6-8 ft. fish jump out and grab a fish from your hand and some people couldn’t control their language. Lol

The outer reef isn't as bad as the inside, we've been going 60-80 ft. And don't see too much bleaching, mainly - after storm / winter dammage.

There does seem to be very little Elkhorn & sps in general, with exception of montis. I only have Caribbean and GBR diving to compare to, but it does look better than the GBR bleaching - wise to me. It is a major sponge gorgi, and fan system, with a ton of cool critters though.
Ill share some deep photos when able to download. (Go pro is being a pain).

Nice Pics!

We dove Hol Chan and snorkeled shark ray alley yesterday.

Was the current a killer? Last time we dove it the first half of the dive was work...the second half was easy.

The reef around Ambergris is not as good as the ones around the smaller islands like Half Moon.
