Damsel Mistake!

Aiptasia and majano are common pest, the difference in biology should be obvious.

Damsel fish, as should be obvious are higher evolved animals. They do not grow on trees, there is limited supply not to mention the place they play on the biodiversity of a wild reef.

Bleaching live rock really? That is like saying I am killing bacteria by washing my cloths, silly silly argument.

Blaming it on advise you got on so and so does not fly either. I take responsibility for my actions and inaction plan and simple.

I am not a perfect hobbyist, I make my mistakes but I take claim to them and I try to grow, that is all we can ask of each other.

I'm not going to argue about the details and what life you consider worth killing. After what I read in this post there isn't much credibility left & your pretty much a bunch of blowhards!

I’m sorry you feel that way about us, I am still unsure what you expected from a forum that’s all about caring for ocean-dwelling life. Please keep your comments kind and professional, this is a family forum.

Not all of you! They know who I was referring to. You just said "caring for ocean dwelling life" thats my point not all life, its selective outrage if any one of you were honest about the concern for ocean dwelling life it would include ALL of it! Has one thing said by anyone other than me a little off? Its just like the accidental killing of ocean dwelling life and the half truths above, people don't bleach rock to kill bacteria? And damsels as far as numbers go, there is no shortage the fish getting killed are much more rare am I right? No one said that, damsels are built proof.
Anyway it seems my affinity for the ocean is authentic & what this group thinks is subject! JMO
One more thing if you think this is a "hobby" your not doing it right!

Really didn’t want to chime in but if this isn’t a hobby, what is it?

That is a good question!
I have had fish tanks all my life over a half century and there is nothing like a reef. I cant find a word for it but "hobby" is a understatement. And when someone refers to is as such I feel they don't get it! Defiantly have no qualification to judge others with a reef! Its sophomoric. IMO
How about you is it more to you than that? Or is my OCD showing?:)

Excellent point! With the amount of attention, time and duration I have been in the hobby, it more like a life style. Took my tanks to college, got into nano tanks with I became a traveling nurse, were I go a tank goes.

Human bias in dealing with the creatures with which we share this world is pervasive.

I'm sure there are few among us who wouldn't slap a mosquito that's drinking our blood or stamp on a cockroach. Fewer of us - though still the majority, I suspect - would trap a rat that's raiding our pantries. Very few indeed would shoot a dog wandering through our back yards.

We show the same bias when we eliminate a mojano or flatworm, when we dip a coral for red bugs or when we eradicate ich from our fish, but keep - and take pride in - the fish and the corals we've chosen to grace our tanks.

Best most level headed comment I've seen. I personally have only flushed fish for the most extreme of reasons and wouldn't recommend doing so if you can prevent it. 2 damsels that were literally killing each of my fish 1 by 1 and no lfs would take them nor did anyone local want them. The op on the other hand has plenty of time to find them good homes so I don't agree with them being killed. We enter this "hobby" to keep and better understand marine biodiversity. Part of that includes the food chain so it's our job as reefers you research and understand said food chain before we make addition. I'm a black Republican from Texas who loves ar-15's and American muscle cars so in no way am ia snowflake but we should still care for and respect the animals that are only here because we went and got them

Well this is a whole other issue! lolol just messing with you don't shoot me with your ar-15!

Yea Its's like that a way of life an extension of yourself & a living pice of the earth primarily the ocean in your care! Thats what I feel and if reefers feel it too they are Reefers not hobbyist. A Reefer is meticulous when it comes to husbandry and are reasonable people. You can see it in this thread there was defiantly 2 groups of people. Ones that were objective and offered ideas and others "hobbyist" who were offended when I brought up poor husbandry leading to fish death. I guess I flushed them all out & I bet the amount of lost life among them is more than all the fish I have lost in my life time.
So that makes me a Reefer because I Reef!
I looked it up Reef as a verb is a new word. I just invented it.
Reef on!!

Liked the comments by 75galOCD. Wanting someone to say they hope they are thinking of killing you if you kill 2 fish is way over the top. I love fried catfish and a good steak. Want someone to think of killing me? What do we feed our fish? Live or frozen food that was alive. I agree that taking them back to LFS is best or giving them away but these are fish not people! Calm down the rhetoric please. Take a deep breath as you are not morally superior whatever you think.

Dominos are aggressive. I have kept one in a 20 long years ago with other fish for over a year with no issues. It was in with a Percula Clown, Blue Damsel, Blue Streak Cleaner Wrasse all able to handle the Domino added last by happenstance not design. Like any fish it depends on what you match them with, relative size to each other and temperaments etc.

I missed that?
“Wanting someone to kill you”
Where was that said I couldn’t find anything like that?
