Dark Spot on fish?

Aggression can and will happen at night as well, you may need to watch after lights out with flashlight?

Hmm I guess it is possible. I think it's more likely happening during the day when I am at work. At night every one seems to be sleeping. The wrasse is always in the sand at night and in the morning and comes out after light on and goes back in before lights out. It's possible that he is coming out at night while I am asleep. I have two IP cameras that can see the tank. They are both too far away to give great detail and during the day the tank is too overexposed to see much.

Tomorrow I'll go over my night time footage of last night and tonight. I should be able to see movement if it's at night. Still may be too far away but may be worth a shot.

Well I took a quick peak at two random times last night. Too far away and dark to be useful. Think I'm going to set up one temporarily right beside the tank. See what kind of picture I can get.

Excuse the mess. It's been a busy week and we have 2 kiddos and a cat and a dog. My Wife is basically kid number 3 haha.

Honestly I think the clowns are nipping each other's fins. And likely got in a squabble with the wrasse. They definetly seem more aggressive towards each other today than normal. Didn't get much on video but they due seem to be squaring off a bit.

What do you think?

Hard to tell

True, well it doesn't seem the smaller fish is being allowed in the anemone now. Lights out and it is swimming outside the anemone. Definetly not normal. Well as far as the past few weeks is concerned. I watch them go into the anemone together every night. So I take it she kicked him out and will be getting alimony?

Maybe a Nem sting?

Possibly but I thought all my fish were immune to my silicone anemone :) .

Just giving you a hard time. No other livestock except for fish at the moment.

One thing I did do is turn off the pump for feeding today. Something I hadn't done since the wrasse got in the tank. Every time the overflow/return/drain or whatever makes a gurgling noise after I turn off the pump the r fish seem to get scared for a few seconds. Maybe it got startled and banged a rock.

Didn't notice it until after I fed but was busy with the kids so doesn't mean much.

I would feed a little extra for a day or two ... don’t go overboard like I do ;) but several small feedings throughout the day. If you have selcon or vita-chem to soak the food even better.

And keep an eye, if he starts breathing rapidly or the discoloration gets larger or turns white or red - I’d move to QT. With a 90-minute acriflavine bath in between if you have it. If not, methylene blue is another good antiseptic for a bath.

This^^^^ Sounds like an excellent plan to me!

I have selcon, I usually add it to all the non vitamin enriched foods I feed such as the plain Mysis or Brine shrimp. I usually don't add it to LRS Nano Reef or V20 Fish & Reef food. I'll be sure to add it and feed at least twice today (not going overboard of course with the quantity).

Sounds like I may need to add more stuff to my fish medicine cabinet? On had I have General Cure, Focus and Copper Power. Are any of these a replacement for acriflavine/methlyne blue?

None of those would really be the equivalent, the general cure has metronidazole which has antibiotic properties but not very effective as a bath. It’s used more commonly as a de-wormer, anti-parasitic.

Ruby reef rally is a good source of acriflavine. In a pinch, API fungus cure contains acriflavine as well and works for a bath if needed. Methylene blue may help reverse ammonia and cyanide poisoning, so it’s good to have.

As for antibiotics to have on hand for QT: I keep kanaplex, metroplex (metronidazole without the praziquantel), and furan-2. You’ll see these referred to as the “trifecta”, and can be dosed together every 48 hours (20-25% water change between doses) for 10 days, for aggressive bacterial infections. Another good antibiotic to have on hand is NFG (Nitrofuracin green), particularly for tangs, angels, and butterflies.

Looks like either healing from an old injury or start of bacteria. In both respects, API has a liquid called " melafix which will heal it.

It looked lighter today. Seems to be going away. I'll post a picture after a couple more days. Didn't see much aggression today at all honestly. I didn't get to watch it as good as I wanted as I had some stuff to do for work but from what I saw everyone was behaving.

Doesn't have to be aggression, as a simple act of fish being startled can cause a nick

Ok, good point. I was only thinking aggression because my clown fish have nipped back fins also. So not exactly sure what's going on there. I think they are likely doing it to each other as they are still fighting for dominance. I think that's the most likely cause. The smaller one had a nipped back find about a month ago but it was almost healed and then now both of them had it. Hopefully they are almost done fighting by now.

Fish are like cavemen in the sense that they are very territorial and quite simplistic in their behavior at times. The wrasse having such a thick mucous coating to protect it is in a good position to heal itself as long as it had a full spectrum of food with the proteins and vitamins found it it's natural setting. Selcon & Zoecon are great products to supplement your fish's food to ensure good health. Best of luck with your beautiful fish. :)
