Darth's Reefer 250 Tank Build...

It all depends. I started with one and probably had 50 over an 18 month period. I guess the conditions were right for them to split like that in my display. Yours may be different, we can’t know for sure.
I personally would never put them into a display tank with prizes corals. Honestly you can’t blame the nems. The are doing what they do.

What I would suggest is a species only tank with clowns and nems. No corals you would have to worry about.

Hi @DarthSimon! I just read the thread. Pretty awesome stuff. I also had to remove my BTA’s. Sad day for sure!

One question. It seems you like your vertex calcium reactor. I’m running kalk but will likely add a reactor down the road. Any comments good or bad about the vertex? How do you feed it? How often do you have to tinker with it? I’m gone a lot, often for 2-3 weeks at a time. So adjusting while I’m gone and reliability are my concerns.

Thanks!

I feed it through a 1/4 inch line that comes out of a manifold that’s powered by a CoR20. That Cor20 is dedicated to a few different things. Not my display tank.

The Vertex has been great. Only issue I had which had nothing to do with Vertex was the output line from manifold got clogged a few weeks ago. Replaced it with fresh tubing and back in business....

ok. I'll watch my Neme. Any splits will be pulled and sold.
But wow, you had 50/18 months from one. You could make money selling them.
Here the LFS store Sells the nice ones for $80+, but will also buy for Store Credit at $40+

Guys!
I want to thank you for your advice!!!!! It worked like a charm. I took every single RBTA out of my display attached to a rock.
Let’s them fall off into a bucket worked. Took 30-60 minutes and they all came off rocks. A few I had to nudge off, but nothing terrible.

Unfortunately it was a sad day for my reef. It was a mature SPS and LPS tank of 2 plus years.

So I had 32 RBTA’s.... That needed to be removed from display. Probably over 50 in 2 years. It was time to remove them. There were being invasive and taking over my display, stinging corals...

I took them to my LFS in Cherry hill and traded them in. He gave me a handsome credit so I loaded up on some nice corals. Nice colony of Duncan’s, Few Blastos, Open Brain Trachy, Acan colonies and few others.

Here is some before and after:

Nothing is really open yet on new stuff, so we’ll see.
HI there

I looked but didn’t see the advice you were given for how to remove the RBTA from the rocks.I just moved my RBTA from qt to display, but have spent 2 hours messing trying to get ornaments to detach from a scallop shell. Any tips?

I’ve tried the credit card, ice, and annoying it with a powerhead.

Thanks

Inevitably I had to take all the rocks out of my display that they were attached to and hang them upside down in a bucket. 10-30 minutes later most of them would fall of to bottom of bucket.

Hang them just above the water in the bucket, right?

Thanks so much!

Just has to be suspended, so It can fall....

So I haven't updated in some time. Last October I had a bacterial infection wipe out 95% of all my Euphyllia Corals. All of my Dragon Souls, Holy Grail, Indo Golds, Aussie Golds, Todd Greens all wiped out. Was able to save one head of green indo and a head of Frogspawn. I took a 3 month break and let things settle, and clear up. I am back at it, and starting a new collection. Here's some new pieces I have added...
Some assorted Indo Golds, TSA Wholy Grail, HellFire and other's... Few Aussie torches mixed in too.....
