Day 2 - how do these look

I have had CITR Red Dragon under 600+ PAR and it thrives, but it gets monochrome and loses the whiteish-blue tips. I have also seen it do OK under 150 PAR. 200-300 seems to be a sweet spot for growth and the color with the tips being different than the body.

I will also point out that there are literally a dozen different types of "Red Dragon" that come in from AQ land... they are close, but not the same as CITR.... not as red and not all of them get the whiteish/blueish tips.

This stuff grows like crazy for me. I give away and sell a ton of it and about half of the people kill it. It is not a super-easy SPS, but it sure can take off when it is happy.
Agreed.
Boy was I surprised when I first did the research on the tri colored vileda. It comes from everywhere indo and Aussie and different depths.

That’s what makes Reefing so fun.

The devil is in the details, right?. That is why I always mention which lights and ballasts that I have, which type of coral, which PAR meter, etc. It matters to the people who know, and it is not bothersome to those who have no idea. An AQ "Red Dragon" with the thicker branches will never get the blueish/white tips that CITR can nor get as dark red, so if people are not sure if they have CITR, then they likely do not need to bother trying to chasing them and be happy with what they have.

BTW - the Original Bali Tricolor that Tyree used to sell is VERY GOOD and better than most. The ORA one is very good too. There are some bad ones out there.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

I stopped at my LFS today (payday [emoji2]).

Green one is called alien eye chalice.

I was going to pick up a second t5 fixture, t5 bulbs, timer, and also a cheap led for my fish QT. Then I noticed the ai prime hd sale and realized I would spend about the same for the prime and could use the existing t5 on the fish QT. So I have an ai prime hd set up now on my Coral QT!

Using gooseneck, it's height is 12" from water. I removed the glass top and used brstv recommended color blend settings. (They seem high?) I set the timer to 10am to noon sunrise ramp up and then on until 7pm to 9pm sunset. It's in a room with no sunlight. I wanted it later to be on when I'm home.

I'm thinking I should use the acclimation mode. What do you all think I should set the accommodation mode to?

I'll be testing water shortly and post parameters.

Well water parameters are in. I'm not happy with them.

Temp 79
pH 7.8
Ammonia 0.5. !!
Nitrites 0.5. !!
Nitrates 16
Phosphates 0.02
Calcium 400
Mg 1320
Kh 5.6 ??!
Salinity 1.026

The Kh doesn't make sense to me since the corals have only been in there 5 days an starting was supposed to be 9 dkh from label on bucket.

The bigger concern is the ammonia and nitrites. I found a couple of dead snails. I removed them and added prime. The tank cycled for 3 months (2ppm ammonia processed in 24hr) and I added a bottle of Dr Tim's when I started to give it an additional boost when I put the corals in there. I've done fresh water for 30+ yrs. How can I not keep a SW tank cycle? This is elementary.

I have a HOB filter with around 10 Marine pure balls in back plus a chunk of live rock.

I use rodi water to make my salt water and for top off water.

I was using hw-marinemix. My LFS said they don't carry it any more due it being inconsistent and to make customer complaints to the same. Maybe that's the cause?

They recommended tropic Marin reef mix which I picked up.

If I use that, how do you recommend raising the Kh? 20% water change every other day three times?

Baking soda- sodium bicarbonate. There are bunch of calculators online for how much to add with your volume and desired rise.

Makes sense. It's what I use for my planted tank. I'll Google to find the safe rate to raise it

Day 13
Corals are looking good now. Color has improved some on all corals. Slowly bringing kH up still.

The dragon has a little white on some of the tips now. I've read it could be new growth. Do you think it is new growth or start of bleaching? Base of dragon and all rest are good. Only very tips have white.

I lost my blue mushroom. It kept letting go of the plug. Eventually the powerhead got it. I put carbon in in case of toxins.

How long do I need to wait to see if there are pests from eggs hatching? My plan is 45 days to prevent ich. Is that enough for the rest of pests to show up? Aptasia, nudis, red bugs, etc.

Sorry for the poor pictures. I'm having trouble getting good ones. First time taking Coral pictures on my phone.
