Dead coral over night

not a chemist here ,do see high copper in old test, not in new??

Home from work and have water mixing. That coral is done. I’ll start by frag the hammers what dip should I use.

coral rx and dt water rinse, before replacing

Shoot.

Hard for me to say a cause for sure. Maybe the high phosphate along with the 1 dKH alk change? Did anyone mention stray voltage yet? I lost a Stylo once due to that.

Good luck with the rest of the corals.

Normally I don’t run GAC carbon but last week I did put some in a bag just 3/4 cup rinsed well. Last night I did frag the hammer lost five heads. These pictures are this morning.

I have a similar problem to yours in one of my systems, a frag tank, where all the parameters seem to be in range and then periodic die off. I have a display in an adjoining room with similar parameters and doing great.

Yeah I don’t know what to do. If it’s BJD and is going to spread to all corals maybe I should just pull all corals now and sell them to LFS? With no coral in the tank will BJD go away?

I can't say that your experience is the same as mine was, but there are MANY similarities. Here's my saga, and what I did to stop the spread. There are some other creative suggestions listed too.

Oddly enough, the coral I scrubbed under running tap water is back in action. I'd save that for a last resort though.

Does brown jelly disease affect any corals besides LPS (especially Euphyllia and Duncans)? I wasn't aware of that.

Good question. I think it's more of a symptom than a disease, but I could be wrong. When my corals started dying it was the brown jelly covering LPS that made me think it was BJD, yet my euphyllias were unaffected. Some of the SPS started showing slow tissue necrosis though. Sounds like I had a pathogen or conditions that caused different symptoms in different corals.

I really don’t know. Odd that it would start with my bird’s nest and move to the hammer. Maybe I don’t have BJD but the flesh just bubbling off and looked like jelly and the microscope pic showed the same bugs that I’ve seen in other threads.

normally ,just my experience ,remove bjd, take care of affected, run carbon, stops spread, keep us posted:)

i would say no,only when think needed, most problems, adding new corals,i do not run constant :) would love to hear others opinion's ,30 yr reefer stuck old school,;)

I would agree with @fishguy242. Personally I have never had issues with running carbon. GFO maybe- because it can rapidly change water parameters. But personally never had issues with using carbon.

Good luck my friend!
