Dead coral over night

Honestly, when I have seen this level of tissue loss in response to copper all corals were affected. It was due to installing a new pump at a store, which we found out had a brass seal in it (don't buy pool pumps for coral). The poly pad turned blue from that.

I'm wondering what concentration would produce that change in the pad. What did your LFS test your copper at? I only saw your tap water concentrations, but maybe I missed it. Do you use tap water as your source water? No RO/DI?
Yes I only use RODI. Using Hanna checker I got 0.19ppm in the DT. My RODI tests at 0.01. I read some of Randy’s posts about the Hanna giving false copper readings in the reef tank. The poly filter is only turning brown and I haven’t found anything rusting. I haven’t used the Cubrisorb yet.

It seems you’ve fixed things? Only that one loss?

Your copper isn't that much higher than typical reef salts. Maybe 0.05 or so. I'd lean towards bacterial infection. Do you have a UV sterilizer? Changed the lamp in the past year?

Lost a bunch of heads of hammer, bird’s nest and the worst was orange Monti. So far I’ve done three 30 gallon WC, covered tank with screen, poly filter, reduced core7 dose and stopped vinegar dosing. I don’t know if I fixed it but nothing has died this week.

Is it possible for a hammer to be stressed by clown fish and start a chain reaction?

This was the hammer few weeks before the death. The clowns have been sleeping in it.

100% for sure that can be ruled out, no chain reaction from a hammer loss. some disease variant is here it seems but for sure not sure which one or how to address

Update: had a massive Dino bloom, haven’t lost anymore corals yet but my chalice just developed a blister. These pictures are from now without aquarium lights on just room lights and a flashlight.

my gosh I wonder what in totality is causing it

are you running nopox etc

You are going to have to start gluing frags to the chalice, that thing is taking over lol.

Could too much light be causing this? I’ve been renting a par meter from LFS and was getting 300 par at the top of rocks with 100% power on the lights. Just got a Seneye and it says 480 and this is after turning the lights down to 65% power. But my Seneye unit isn’t reading pH or ammonia correct and they are sending a new unit. It could be a month before I get the new unit so if these problems are light related I don’t want to wait another day!!

Any chance that you could lower the temperature by a few degrees? That should at least slow the spread.

Maybe some Melafix as well? Melafix/iodine dip worked in my similar situation, but it doesn't look like that rock can easily be removed and dipped. Perhaps a tank treatment will help. UV too.

It's noticeable progression so I'd do something.

So I ended up cutting that coral. I got down to the original rock I put it on and it was shadowing itself right where it started dying.

Well, your choice of fish is impressive. Parrot, CB and black leopard are three for which success has eluded me.
