Is this typical of the club now or is it just a seasonal thing? People used to post all the time, engaging other members to help out, show off new acquistions, seek moral support, etc. Now, nothing, just dead air time. Any idea what gives?

Time of the year.... Christmas and the New Year has everyone preparing to visit or be visited by family..... or in my case inlaws... arggggg!

For me it's become a rather loss of interest in my tanks. Battling dinos off and on in my nano and hair algae in my 135 it has become a real pain and sort of takes the fun out of it right now. The dinos are gone for now in the nano but the hair algae persists in my big tank even with cutting back on food and lighting along with water changes. Plus the added fact that I need to set up/buy a sump and skimmer along with new lights and just the expense and time of dealing with my tanks while working two jobs has taken most of my interest out of the saltwater game for a while. In fact I have been contemplating turing my 135 in a low tech low light planted freswater tank and just focusing on that for a while.

Sorry to hear that Knox_Legend. If there's anything I can do to help don't hesitate to ask. What kind of skimmer are you running if you don't mind my asking? Also, have you considered removing the rock and scrubbing the algae off? I've had to do that before and after doing it and adding a tang and quality RO/DI water the algae never came back. Would hate to see you get out as you've invested a lot of time and $$ I'm sure! Seriously, if I can help don't hesitate to ask.

Dave

Don't worry Dave, I'll post a pic of the Rasta Zoa I got from you soon enough .

The holidays are hard on budgets . All I wanted for xmas was a rodi system. And a sump pump. And plumbing pieces. And a set metal hallide lights. BUT I WILL have many of these components soon. I am going to put my 75 g on a unused bar in my man cave. I don't know which forum is better thou.

We were getting over 50 views a week on the FB page up until the last couple of weeks, too. This week it was 8. Figure it is the time of year. I've been too busy lately to think of posting. But then I have a real good excuse. :)

I've been basically MIA in the academic job market since september and will stay that way until I defend my dissertation, unfortunately.

Thanks Dave. I have a good RODI system putting out 0 tds have changed out at least 35 to 40 gallons of water at a time and scrubbed rocks countless times but it just keeps coming back. My sailfin won't eat it and my in-tank skimmer/pump thing is garbage(can't remmember the name off hand). I may have to resort to pulling out the rock and boil it or re-cook it and if thats the case then I may as well go back to freshwater.

Dave we have been sick for about a week. Made for a "not-so-fun" holiday. Did not feel like doing much of anything.

Knox_.... How much CUC do you have? Whatever it is tripling it could do the trick.

Im pretty sure out of all the reef boards this is the most active and visited site. Great members with a lot of knowledge that will help you out. Time of the year my man.

Yeah my CUC right now is fairly small for my task. I do believe a large order of turbo snails may do the trick and some more hermits along with a couple of urchins and I may be good to go and bulb change wouldn't hurt either.

I've just been busy as everything. Like Joel, I'm applying for a few jobs.

I wouldn't say that I'm not interested in my tank but I haven't been taking care of it in the way that I should.

It disturbs me that the FB page is not being updated regularly. We should be posting stuff on there daily, IMO since most of those crazy kids look at FB about 20x a day.

Also, I'm bummed that my lights need replacing and so my Idaho Grape is looking like crud. Boo. I'm debating about switching to 250w electronic ballasts with Lumenarc reflectors instead of 400w old magnetic ballasts with crappy reflectors. So there's a topic for discussion. Randy says I'll make my money back in energy costs alone by buying the electronic ballasts...if I get a decent deal. Now the issue is...which electronic ballasts and where to buy them!

Our local club is dead as well! We have not had a meeting in a few months.
