there are only like 5 people in the club that actually live in Nashville:wink:...plus, I'm just messing around. I know that there a lulls in all hobbies and clubs...interest seems to come and go, and life can throw some definite curve balls for sure.

Im pretty sure out of all the reef boards this is the most active and visited site. Great members with a lot of knowledge that will help you out. Time of the year my man.

Its not an R2R issue but an ETRC issue. You see, I've been contemplating rejoining but the lack of interest is not helping swing my decision. It just doesn't have the "feel" of the club I remember. Nothing against any of the members or BOD but maybe the passion's not there anymore. Glad to see all responses here though. Hope all who have been ill are feeling better and I wish every one of you a New Year that surpasses your expectations!

I've just been busy as everything. Like Joel, I'm applying for a few jobs.

I wouldn't say that I'm not interested in my tank but I haven't been taking care of it in the way that I should.

It disturbs me that the FB page is not being updated regularly. We should be posting stuff on there daily, IMO since most of those crazy kids look at FB about 20x a day.

Also, I'm bummed that my lights need replacing and so my Idaho Grape is looking like crud. Boo. I'm debating about switching to 250w electronic ballasts with Lumenarc reflectors instead of 400w old magnetic ballasts with crappy reflectors. So there's a topic for discussion. Randy says I'll make my money back in energy costs alone by buying the electronic ballasts...if I get a decent deal. Now the issue is...which electronic ballasts and where to buy them!
If I get my leds looking like I want them I'll offer you my ghetto 250W hqi ballast and several low usage radium bulbs for a little bit of nothing. Can't wait to try the new 3w uv leds

Dave

That may be a great idea.

Oh and thank you!

Just because ETRC isn't posting a lot doesn't mean they're not showing up to meetings. We've had decent attendance at most of the recent meetings, in my opinion.

I just think people are busy right now!

I also think they need to let me have control of the FB page to drum up some numbers!

Ill have to check out the FB page.

Give us some details on the LED fixture you are working on.

I just ordered some UVs for my build.

Mel I'll just trade you for some frags if you like. 1ballast you can usewith your current socket and reflector, 2or3 radium 250 w bulbs, a single end phoenix bulb and (I think) a aquaconnect bulb. Just looking for zoo/pale frags and perhaps a colorful mills afro frag (if you hag any)

Soon to be 50/50 cool white/royal blue cree xr 3W 12 of each driven by 700 mA constant current drivers and 70 degree optics plus 8 cree royal blue plus 5 Chinese uv, all 3W as actinic supplement without optics.

That's 37 total? What does that put your spacing at?

I am going about 2:1 Royal Blue:cool white. The white will be driven higher 1050 mA I think (without looking) All on 2" spacing w 60 degree optics and I am dropping in a few red and few more actinic as supplement. Should be close to the same final color temp.

I love the recent explosion in activity.

TThey're segmented onto 5 different heat sinks so it varies. Denser on the actinic portion but they seem to run cool enough. I like it a little whiter but really love it when actinic only are on. Just blowing a walmart fan over the whole lot and using some super efficient pin fin heat sinks on the cree light strips (got a good deal on those). Mel's convinced me to join back up so maybe a spring meeting at my place is in the cards.

Dave

I guess I am going to finally join up as well.
Those heat sinks are interesting. I had to google it. Looks like they would be more efficient.
How are you mounting them in a hood?

I mount 3 to a cree light strip. The strip uses a aluminum substrate and the led is well bonded thermally to the aluminum. So the heat sink doesn't have to run the entire length of the light strip. Pin fins are expensive though.

I'd like to replace the semiLEDs in my Maxspect with Crees, but since I don't have the slightest bit of know how, would any of you DIYers be willing to take on the project for some kind of compensation?

Janie, I bet that Scott (or Dave) could help you though his time is at a premium right now!

Dave, do you have a ballast to run one bulb or to run two? what kind of ballast is it? I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth or anything, I'm just trying to order another one if I need to!
