So I've promised myself on this build I'm currently doing (in my sig) that I'm going to take it extremely slow and let it mature. I'm going to hold to that as well. With that being said, I'm only doing like 1 fish a month and not going to add coral until like month 3-4. Etc. Super Slow, just the way I want to do it.

So the question is, what do you do with your time while you are waiting?

I'm personally already looking at getting another tank and building a list of what I want (Don't tell my wife). Thinking of getting a Nano tank to use as a grow out tank and honestly just want a nano. Wife is going to kill me Lol.

The extra time provides time to watch videos, read, participate on the forum, and learn as much as you can - your fish and coral will thank you! Just watching the BRS 52 weeks of reefing and the MACNA speaker videos from the last few years will take you a while to work through. Good luck!

Oh thats not how I meant this post to come across lol. I'm not new.

Setup a quarantine tank for fish/coral. I use a IM 20 for a small grow out/coral and snail quarantine

That is one of the benefits for those of us who suffer from Multiple Tank Syndrome (MTS) - there is always something to tweak or tinker with. :)

Sometimes that's really hard to do. So hat's off to you, and keep working on that patience. There are no shortcuts. If there were, R2R wouldn't exist. I second @Hydrored ... set up a quarantine tank and put your energy into that. And like @Peace River said, you're never too advanced to watch videos ... when I feel like I wanna put my hands in that tank, I fire up my fav YouTube channel instead and live through other folks' builds.

If you're feeling the urge to put your hands in your tank, post here! We can keep you busy  and we all know exactly how you're feeling.

Oh trust me, I've probably watched to many videos on YT at this point. Constantly watching vids lol. I was just wanting to start up a conversation. Definitely do NOT think I'm to advanced or anything. I'm constantly learning. Sorry if it came off that way LOL. Literally just wanted to start up a convo.

Been a reefer for like 5+ years. Absolutely love it, I've learned my lesson from impatience in the past to many times. Was just wondering what others are doing in the meantime while waiting on a tank to mature/cycle :)

I have said this to myself millions of times. My answer? Never had to find an answer since I could never hold out that long.. Something alway came by. A new fish, coral, new piece of equipment, etc.At minimum I would start moving stuff around

I'm up. :p Watcha got in your tank? Still have your Waterbox?

Oh yea waterbox isn't even a month old lol. Just got Steve the Orange Storm clown in there at the moment, he's going to be lonely for the next month. Adding either a Kole Tang or a Yellow tang next month.

Heh yes, I'm determined to do it slow this time. We'll see how long this lasts Lol.

I am moving stuff around, like I've been playing with my new gyre, its deciding to create bald spots in my sand bed, so trying to figure out placement and flow patterns/percentages I like while just Steve the clown is in there. He doesn't seem to mind, he likes riding the waves. Got a MP40 coming Monday so another new toy to play with and figure out my flow.

Also have a RO 152-S Classic Skimmer that is probably going to drive me up the wall. Anyone else hate trying to dial in skimmers as much as I do? Seriously considered dropping a skimmer altogether and using the skimmer space in the sump to do a Refugium (never had one before, done tons of research on it though)

Ah! Yeah, sorry, clicked your profile to pull up your current tank build but didn't pay close enough attention to see that is like right now! That's super exciting. :D Patience in reefing is measured in months, not weeks, (as I'm sure you already know) but with this new build, I'd be right there with you itching to tweak. You could probably play with your flow right now, while your bactco is filling in ... one of the BRS YouTube shows I watched had them insert an air pump at the power head and then watch where the micro bubbles flew across your tank, where there are dead spots ... that would be something you could do right now without messing with your bios ... might give you a pretty good idea of perfect flow for that tank with your current scape, and then you don't have to worry about that again until significant coral growth changes it.

Wow, I never would have thought of that. Thats brilliant. I'm definitely going to look into that. I'm completely still undecided on what I want this tank to be as far as coral go. I'm in between doing like a Euphyllia dominated tank or just go for a full on SPS tank which I've never done.

I was lucky had a 25 nano cube that I turned into a frag tank after removing most of the live rock to the 120.
Added some caribea dry rock and tank was ready around 1.5 months.
Took another 1.5 months to transfer everything to the 120.
Now 10.5 months from start the tank is growing well with over 50 coral 11 fish 3 shrimp 2 urchins 2 brittle stars and various snails.
Started purchasing the stand and 45 frag tank, 40 breeder sump, and related equipment.
So not much waiting around time for me lol.

How are the Urchins for you? I had a single one in my old 180g tank, never really seen him do much though. Granted that 180g tank was a zeovit tank. Been honestly debating if I want to get 1 for this Waterbox tank.
